what can you not eat
We will all have our own "no-no" foods. Toasted and cruncy does not wad or bind once it hits the entrance to the pouch. Sometimes chicken, no matter the cooking style...or pork or steak...anything fibrous...potentially might be spit back up like a little bird. Sometimes taking tinier bites (size of 4 peas) and chewing alot allows you to eat, swallow, and keep anything down. Milk-based and soy-based liquids (and similar) cause painful bloat of the pouch. A small amount of rice can be tolerated, but never if in the pouch with soup or drink (expansion). Take baby steps post-op. Think of it as introducing food to a baby. You will tolerate minimal spice right out of the gate...then build up your tolerance like you did as a kid. You are "reborn" in some ways with how your stomach behaves, so be gentle to it.
Approaching 14 months post-op and there's nothing I have to avoid. The bigger list would be things I simply don't "want" anymore - tastes and cravings change. But I can have my dark chocolate, my cheesecake, my nachos - if I want them. But I find it doesn't take much these days to satisfy the craving - half portions are my norm and it's pretty flippin' amazing that it still "feels" just as satisfying as what used to take "more" as a pre-op to get the same feeling. But you'll find you'll probably crave the "stuff" less often. I can go for weeks at a time w/out a splurge and be perfectly fine with it, not missing a thing. But if there's an occasion or I'm in the mood for something, it's nice to know I can have it and the tool of the pouch helps me keep the portions focused.
