Anyone know where I can go to get the DETAILED, SPECIFICS on the Post-op diet?  I haven't had surgery yet, but am trying to learn all I can to make it easier afterward.  I can find basic overviews, but that is it.  I'd like to have it all in my head good so I'm not always worried if I'm doing the right thing after surgery.  That is if I every get approved and have it.  Any help is apreciated.

the thing is, every surgeon has a different post op plan, so unless you find a specific surgeon's site with their post op diet you probably will only find generalities. I've seen such a vast array of post op plans, you never know what you will get until you have a surgeon.

Amber, Many different versions depending on the doctor. Your Doc may well have a "handout." Most do. For a look at some of the Typical handouts from Docs? Checkout- PostOpDietPlans These are the typical 3 stage and 5 stage systems Used by the majority of Bariatric Clinics. Hope this helps! Best Wishes-Mike Wazowski Dx

As stated above only the surgeon/NUT can give you GUIDELINES. You will not get anything detailed and specific (early out you will) except nutritional goals to meet (how many calories, fat, carbs, etc). Depending on the surgeon, the surgery and the amount bypassed the post-op eating differs. For example at 9 months out I was eating 800-900 calories, somebody else was eating 1400-1500... so its important to always listen to YOUR nut/surgeon! The post-op diet changes MANY times... depending on what your surgeons guidelines are mine changed at 2 weeks, 3 months, 5 months, 6 months.... I went to my nut and had changes specifically made for me at 9 months as well. When I reach goal it will once again change :-)   The best I can describe is it is very similar to the south beach diet... high proten (lean) low fat and only complex carbs (nothing white, processed, refined, enriched), lots of veggies and fruit.

Is your surgeon going to have the nutritionist come visit you in the hospital after surgery? Usually it goes by what you are tolerating before you go home as to how they move you along.

Thanks for all the info.  I don't have a surgeon yet. I'm just looking for all the info I can find to educate myself right now so that I am completely prepared whe I find one.  I can't seem to find a surgeon in my area that will take Medicare and/or  Medicaid, so I'm still searching.  In the meantime, it's research, reasearch, research.
