OT: Crying in my coffee for Robin Roberts from ABC's Good Morning America

I'm sitting her crying in my coffee for Robin Roberts from ABC's Good Morning America.  She appears the picture of health, yet here she is announcing that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer.  I pray that her cancer was caught soon enough for treatment to be successful.  I haven't had my mammogram this year.  I'm making the call right now. If you're 35 or older, you should get a mammogram each year.  Many hospitals offer low cost mammograms several times a year.  My insurance covered my mammogram and it only cost them about $200.  If you're reading this and haven't had your yearly mammogram, please make the call and get one.  The mother of one of my 5th graders passed away during Spring Break this past school year of breast cancer.  She fought it for almost 3 years.  She wasn't even 40. Please pray for Robin Roberts and those who suffer from this terrible disease. JackieBel

Wow ! That's really sad, but with my mind being focused on celebrities that have had gastric bypass surgery the only thing I can think of right now is that she's married to Al Roker. (seriously NOT trying to be a jerk today it's just where my mind is right now)

Yikes. Heartless much? Anyway, to the original poster, well said. Breast cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age, race and believe it or not, sex! Yes, even men can get breast cancer, though it is not nearly as common. I started doing self exams and while it was awkward in the beginning, it is worth it. Early detection is key, so even if you are only in your 20's, start doing self exams! God bless Robin and I hope they have found it early enough! Hugs, Denise

That's Deborah Roberts whose married to Al Roker.  Robin is a tall, athletic lady, in her 40's but looks like she's in her 30's.  She is a co-host on GMA.  Deborah Roberts is shorter and is also in her 40s.  She's a guest correspondent on 20/20, GMA, and World News.

Thank you for clearing up the confusion between these two ladies.  I also tend to get them confused, since they both work for ABC news and have the same last names. I'm so sad to hear about Robin's cancer.  I hope she caught it early enough and will win against it.  Did they say what stage of cancer she has? And does she sound hopeful?  I'm turning on ABC right now to see if I hear anything more...

Yes it is very sad, because it is devastating to the person who has it.  And BTW....Al Roker's wife is Deborah Roberts; not Robin....

I GO FOR MY MAMMOGRAM IN OCTOBER.  MY MOTHER HAD TO HAVE ONE OF HER BREAST REMOVED BECAUSE OF CANCER SO I TRY TO KEEP UP ON MY MAMMOGRAMS.  MY MOM ALSO HAD CERVICAL CANCER AND NOW SHE IS BATTLING BLADDER CANCER.  SO IT REALLY CONCERNS ME.  I JUST HAD A PAP LAST WEEK BUT I HAD LET TIME PASS BY AND DIDN'T REALISE THAT IT HAD BEEN 2 1/2 YEARS SINCE MY LAST ONE.  I REALLY GOT A CHEWING OUT FROM MY MOM AND DR. OMG, this week has been the first week in a long time I haven't turned on GMA.  I usually have it on the morning, even if for background 'conversation' or news.  My heart aches for her hearing this news. I love her.  Actually, the whole GMA team that they've had for awhile now.     Breast cancer is terrible.  I have watched people close to me beat  the odds and one who unfortunately - did not.   Sending MANY positive thoughts her way and to every woman who has to deal with this horrible disease.   Karen

I agree, if caught early you do have a better chance at recovery. The problem I have is with insurance companies not paying for your first mammogram until age 40! My sister was diagnosed at the age of 32, self exam and she died 4 years later. I often wonder if she would have begun mammogram's earlier, IF her cancer would not have been caught earlier. Mammograms are life saving, PLEASE schedule one if you haven't already.
