Walking ?

Like Heidi I am a fair weather walker, however that said, you burn calories based on the energy you exert walking, the time of day doesn't change that. The only thing I can stress is if you love walking in the late aftrnoon, please take your water along and sip constantly, you want to be sure not to get dehydrated. The sweating is water weight, it is not true "weight loss" and does not cause you to burn more calories. The function of sweating is to cool your body down when it overheats, but to do that it must pull fluid from cells which can cause short term dehydration. As soon as you drink enough to replenish this fluid loss, any "weight loss" you had will be negated. Hope this helps and keep walking!! Holly
I have to disagree with Heidi regarding walking not being an aerobic exercise... because The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines aerobic exercise as "any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in nature." It is a type of exercise that overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest.
When I walk I check my heart rate and it definitely increases.
