OT: Tanning and Acrylic Nails

Hey all, I just have a question for those that use tanning beds and also have acrylic nails.  How do you keep your nails from turning yellowish?  I get solar nails and then get the american manicure, and no matter what I do, it seems that my nails start to turn yellowish (and that is not attractive!)  So, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!  Thanks in advance! My acrylic nails have color to them (dark red) so I've not encountered that problem....But it will be interesting to hear the answers.

I wish I could help , I switched to Gel nails last year because I smoked and the acrylic nails turned yellow. The gel nails don't. Maybe switch to gel?

Thanks, I have read before somewhere, that gel nails are good, maybe I will switch to those next time around.  I usually do the pink and white nails, and never had any problem with those when I was in Florida, but in GA, it seems to not be the case!

When I had this trouble long ago and asked someone who does nails about it, she said that part of it could be the quality of the product that your salon is using.. Also, if you are tanning too you might want to ask the salon to use a top coat that has UV protection in it.. When I get mine done anymore, I get Gels done.. I havent found a yellowing problem with gels...

The place where I tan sells these pink rubber tips for your nails.  They just cover the nail and a bit of skin.  They work great!!

I have never heard of those before!  Maybe I will check with my nail lady and see if she has some or tell me where I can get them...Thanks for the info

hi girl.   i hate when my nails turned yellow!  gross.  i love french too so i just started with the pink and white.  they use two powders.  white powder for the tips and pink for the rest and then they file them and they are beautiful.  they never chip and never yellow either.

I usually get the pink and white, but decided to switch up for a while.  They do put on a gel coat after the american manicure....I don't know...maybe I will just color them instead!!!!  Thanks for responding!

Hi Beth, I also have acrylic nails (french tip) I have the nail people  put on a clear  coat that blocks out the rays. Also be sure to wipe your nails off after applying tanning lotion.  Thanks, Kelly Smith 278/136/136
