Hmm hadn't thought about the smell... if they won't even let us pop popcorn in the office I doubt they will tolerate sardines.  I guess this will be an at home treat only.

I will probably sound like a complete imbecile, but Ive never had a sardine in my entire life!! Don't they have the heads still attached? (whole fish?)  I dont think I could eat one without gagging, if that is the case... I just have a vision of a little fish, intact....is that correct?

Hadn't really thought about sardines until your post. Lets see, rinse off the oil, (thats trouble waiting to happen) and bite of sardine, bite of cheese, chew like crazy.  If that stays down, try again??  I guess it is a good source of protein.  I think I'll stick with shrimp and crab for the moment.  Whatever works for you is a good thing.  It is a food I hadn't thought about though seriously.  Thanks for jogging the memory banks.

I love both crab and shrimp... shrimp unfortunately does not agree with the pouch.  I am going to definately work more crab into the rotation though!

I LOVE sardines. I usually eat them with crackers, but since surgery I only eat them straight from the can. Tiny bites, slowly, and chew chew chew. I can't eat a whole can anymore so I give my leftovers to my cat. She gets about 3/4 a can and she loves them too. You should see her run around and yelling her head off when she sees me get a can out. Btw I like mine in mustard.

Pre-op I used to make Pasta con le Sarde... with fresh sardines (very different then canned), fennel, and pine nuts. I'm 1/2 Sicilian. It's one of our regional dishes... but I don't do pasta anymore.

Post-op I have eaten them once (the canned kind) mixed in egg salad with celery & a bit of dijon mustard and mayo. It was in the pureed stage and I whizzed the whole thing up in the food processor. It was tasty.

Can't you have them your old way? I do cream cheese. I just really limit my carbs so crackers are few and far between for me but most Dr/nuts allow them in moderation... on Whole wheat Triscuits or Soy Crisps maybe?
