Pistachio's anyone?
I was reading where some Drs. have said no to nuts but my Nut said nuts are okay after one month. Anyway I am almost 7 weeks post-op (boy doesn't time fly?), and even though I have tried a few peanuts twice but didn't think they tasted very good, I bought some pistachios yesterday and at first I had problems with them and threw them up after I started drinking my water again but really I do not think that I chewed them up enough and drinking before I eat is alot better I am finding out because today I had a whole bunch and tonight I am having some and they are seeming to work for me and they taste good...
Peanuts are legumes...so not as good for you as a true nut...but pistachios are a good source of Omega-9 fatty acids (will help keep your hair and skin healthy). So IF they are ok with your doc, they aren't a 'bad' choice measured out so you don't over-do.
I don't have anything on Pistachios here, but more on nuts and seeds you might enjoy: http://www.bariatricbytes.com/nuts.html

You are right about measuring so not to overdo it. This was my first food to eat kind of fast and more of. I also did that with popcorn the other day. I used to always inhale my food and so lately I am struggling with that and paying for it at the same time. For some reason that old habit seems to be coming back to me, maybe because I am getting more healed? I guess it won't take me very long to learn how to slow down this time. Oh, that negative feedback...
I love eating pistachios. I have them everyday. Just make sure you chew them very well. and make sure you get your water in, because the bad thing about them is that they are very salty. I can tell the next morning after I eat them whether or not I drank enough, because I feel swollen.
Have a good day!!
Pumpkin seeds are better for you, Just an fyi. I love pishashios too, but pumpkin seeds are higher in protien and Iron, and lower in bad fat then nuts. besides what I have found is you can buy them at bulk stores raw and shelled, and bake them at home seasoned how ever you like. and they are even better for you once they are cooked. watch the calories, and have some vitamin C with them, my fave bedtime snack is an orange and 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds. that way the iron absorbs better. LOL at me though cause i still can't swallow oranges so i basically chew them and then spit out the pulp.
