I'm just wondering if beans are a bad choice?  I'm sick of my puree diet and looking for new stuff...this tastes ok, but now that I've started eating it, I'm wondering if I'm setting myself up for bad gas pains or something?? ANYONE??

beans are a great pureed food w/ protein to boot but you may want to check the sugar.  I know most baked bean ( home made or store brand ) are very loaded with brown sugar.  The liitle amount you can eat at this point shoulnd't cause too much gas but it could cause dumping if there is lots of sugar. These are campbells beans...1/2 c serving with 9 g of sugar...and yes thats high, but I'm not able to eat a whole 1/2 c serving, so I think (HOPE) it'll be ok...I'm trying to push protein without the powders...I'm having a hard time finding protein powders I can stand....thanks for the input!

Have you tried unflavored protein?  I add it to anything to increase my protein intake.  I do eat, but this way I know I'm getting plenty!

Yea, the protein powders I'm trying are unflavored...I don't know what it is about them--probably in my head.  But until I can figure out how to handle them, I've still got to try to get in the protein.  I'm sure I'm not hitting my minimum yet, but I'm trying....

Gottatri, Just read your post, and I'm having lunch of...guess what?  beans!! I love refried beans, soft with a little texture, topped with sharp cheddar or jalpeno jack, and sometimes a little salsa. I buy Rosarita traditional.  1/2 c serving, 120 cal, 2gm fat, 0 cholesterol, 18gm carbs, 6gm fiber, 7gm protein, less than 1 gm sugar.  (this doesn't include the cheese) I am almost 5 mo post-op and can barely eat 1/2 c, so my #'s are lower.  Noticed your byline, hope your pain issues are resolved or resolving. I did find a great tasting protein powder, Hank's protein.  www.healthfitnesschannel.com  I got the chocolate and it tastes like a Wendy's Frosty!!  You can get free samples on his website. Good luck to you, Cindy in TX

I do the same thing with refried beans! But I add a little red enchilada sauce, which adds some good flavor. I tried to replicate the Taco Bell Pintos N Cheese, and that's as close as I could get, which works for me!

Haven't done baked beans but I am allowed refriedbeans and turkey chili or veg chili. beans are great and high in protein. they also keep you full for a long time. I wonder if you could find a low or no sugar kind.
