If so, what should we use then?

I used to get these alot due to prior lap surgery. Thankfully my surgeon didn't go in my belly button but above it this time because of my prior surgeries involving my belly button.
That being said, what I used to do is lay on my back with a towel under me and fill my belly button with peroxide, let it bubble up, drain and repeat till it stops the bubbling. Drain it again, blot well with a towel. You can even take a clean q-tip and blot gently inside to get it dry. Then take a little bit of lotrimin lotion, like the kind used for athletes foot, jock itch, etc. Mix a little of that with a bit of cortaid and then lightly apply to your belly button. Do this about 3 times per day till clear. You should see improvement by tomorrow and it should be totally clear within about 3 or 4 days. Hope this helps you.

Yep...its yeast...not bacteria...you are getting a lot of advice here...Once you use the cream...spray...whateva! The fungus will be cleared up...Clortimazole Cream...will work fine...but, once is cleared up....use an absorbant powder (i.e., Gold Bond powder) to keep the area dry and prevent reinfection.
The condition is NOT caused by the oral antibiotics you're taking, but by the folding of skin, the resultant moisture and body heat...the perferct incubator. Its always a good idea to use a powder under folds of skin...take care.
