Topic: Wednesday! Whatcha Eatin? R U Moving?
FINALLY got off my lazy butt and went for a run/walk. Just a few miles, but it felt good. It is so important for me to keep up my exercise routine during the holidays in particular because I do partake in the yumminess of the season! I wore my smallest jeans yesterday and they were a wee bit tighter, so cutting out daily dessert for at least a wee****il I feel more comfortable.
I cannot afford to buy new clothes so I have to stay in the ones I've got! All part of the balance of maintenance....sometimes you get off balance, but you have to right it before it gets out of hand.
Eats today:
B1-Jimmy Dean D-Light breakfast sandwich
B2-grilled chicken breast
L-tuna salad with a few ww Ritz crackers
S-Chobani
S-applesauce cup
D-chili (didn't make the chili last night-had a 1/2 tuna sandwich instead)
Dessert-none just some hot tea or coffee
I'll do something upper body and abs tonight....

Topic: RE: Question on sleeve
Based on the research I have done, the people I know with one and the countless issues with lap bands reported on this site, I'd NEVER have one nor would I ever recommend one.
The sleeve is a good alternative for restriction only. My sister had one in March 2009 and she has done well, however, she has had vitamin deficiencies....but she also wasn't taking the recommended supplements either, so she contributed to the problem. I had the RNY and am very happy with my decision. Bottom line, no matter which surgery you choose, you must completely change your lifestyle of the weight loss will only be temporary.
Whatever you do, research all four major surgeries and choose the best for your lifestyle and long term goals. Statistically speaking, the DS has the best long term results, with the RNY second and then the sleeve/band behind them. Research lots, cut once. Choose your doctor after you choose the surgery you want, and pick the best one for the type of surgery you want.
Best wishes

Topic: RE: Question on sleeve
Mike I had RNY over 8 years ago. I would not do anything different if I had it to do over. As far as the malabsoptive part as long as you take your vitamins, B12 and calcium you should not have a problem. Like you I am a very very picky eater. I do not do salads, veggies, not a lot of fruit and still do not consume a lot of meat. I can not drink milk and do not eat cheese. I have my labs done once a year and the #'s have always been good. The choice is yours and you have to be happy with what works for you. Wish you the best.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I did not want to do the RNY due to the malabsorptive properties of the surgery and the increased risks compared to the banding. I am not sure if the risks are the same for the sleeve and RNY. But, knowing me the RNY would not be a good choice due to my picky eating habits. I do not like meat as much as others and I think that would be a large factor in protein deficiency. I do not think that I would getting all the nutrients that I would be if I did not have the malabsorptive issues that RNY has.
You are the only one that really know your body and base those decisions of many factors including your eating habits and the things that your should be eating.
Thanks again,
Mike

Topic: Question on sleeve
Well you folks know me from before. I did not get the LapBand due to technicalities with my insurance. But, I am getting new insurance at the beginning of the year. My employer stated that the band is covered, although I have been reading on several sites that the sleeve may be covered too.
I called and asked about the two proceedures and they both state I must wait further until the new policy is finalized and enteres in the system. That will be in a week or so, to call back then. So, in the meantime I have several questions.
Has anyone chosen the sleeve over the banding? Why?
Has anyone use and/or has any recommendations for a doctor in the B'ham area that performs the sleeve?
Has anyone chosen the banding over getting the sleeve and why?
I am hoping for the sleeve more because there would not be a device in my body. They do know know that the bypass is not covered due to complications, so it was not included in coverage.
Thanks so much in advance for the replies. My intent is to let you know what happens further and be a post banded or sleeved person that can reply in the forums in the future.
Thanks again,
Mike

Topic: Monday! Whatcha Eatin? R U Moving?
Monday again! We had a busy weekend. Friday evening I hosted my annual ornament party and had 30 of my "girls" over for drinks, dinner and fun. Saturday we went to my DH Christmas party. I need to get the rest of the fudge and pralines out of my house because I keep eating them!
I didn't get to run this weekend either because we were busy and it was cold. I will run tonight on the treadmill.
Eats today:
B1-Jimmy Dean D-light breakfast sandwich
B2-grilled chicken breast
L-a few brussel sprouts, some bites of steak, chicken and pork chop (leftovers from several meals)
S-banana
S-Chobani
D-salmon and salad
Dessert-2 cookies and hot tea
