Hello :)

Hello Alabama folks!
I just wanted to introduce myself and see if there was anyone else on here in my area!

I'm currently 25 days pre-op! My surgery is set for August 9th. I'm very excited and just counting the days until I get begin this journey.

I am an Alabama girl born & bred currently living in Auburn (your sports jokes and jabs will go nowhere with me...I'm not into football! hahaha :) )

Most folks around here have their surgeries done in B'ham, but I opted to go with Dr. Wes Turton in LaGrange, GA. because it's a closer facility for me and I the 2 hour drives to B'ham were hard for me to schedule in with my work and other things going on with my life/family.

Anyone else in the Auburn area? I was hoping that there would be some kind of face-to-face support group for WLS patients in my area. I think it would help a lot.

Welcome to the AL board!  We are making room for ya on the loser's bench!  You are in for an awesome journey--we'd love to support you along the way-there are great folks on this board.

It's nice to know that there are so many other people out there that understand. I'm still amazed by everyone's before/after photos! I can't wait to get this band in place and get started! Even though I'm already practicing what I should be, it's still so hard to wait :)

Hello and congrats on your decision to have WLS.  I know you must be super excited.   I move to Salem 2 weeks ago.  I am close to Auburn/Opelika.  Working in Montgomery so I have a bit of a drive each day.

I would love to find a support group also but so far have not found one.  Please let me know if you do!

Hi Leslie! Thank you I am super-excited. Almost too excited! I am having a hard time concentrating on work LOL But, I have tons to do before I am out for this surgery!

Salem is not far either! Perhaps via this message board and other people I know, we can start some sort of group if one is not in place. I wonder what kind of meeting spaces would be available for free...

There might be someplace here on Auburn's campus that would work.

I know what you mean.  I couldn't concentrate on anything other than surgery.  I was soooo addicted to OH!  lol  This site is great support.

If nothing else, maybe we can start a walking group or meet up for coffee on a weekly basis.
My work schedule changes every couple of weeks.  I am on EW for now with Tues and Weds off....which basically means I am available for lunch meetings......kind of a bummer but I can work with it.

If you get a group together let me know.  I am very interested. 

Yes, I am completely absorbed in thinking about food and calories and what it will all be like afterwards! LOL  I have scoured this site, blogs, and ordered like 5 books from Amazon. I got 2 of them yesterday... I even had them sent with expedited shipping! LOL So, I've begun reading the books too...

I guess it's normal to be so excited about a new direction in life! But, I wish I could turn it off for a while to get some work done ;) ha.

Yes, I think we could easily get something started with this message board and the folks here.

I have asked two people I know who are veteran WLS folks if they know of any groups. We'll see what they say! If not, then maybe we can set up a time to get a group together for coffee and see where it goes from there!

Hi Mary!

Nice to see you on the Alabama Board.  I know that you are excited about your upcoming surgery.  I would be too!  I believe my surgery will be in January 2011.

Please keep us updated with your progress.  I have gotten all kinds of inspiration from this board and the very nice people here.  I am very glad I found it and glad you found it too.

Good luck!  You will be in my thoughts.
