The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds.  (Philippians 4:7)

To the objective observer, peace is the very last emotion that Paul should have been feeling.  However, he knew from experience what he was talking about here.  He had been shipwrecked, stoned and lashed on several occasions all because he was a follower of Jesus.  The one sure truth that he knew was that God's peace, though mysterious and impossible to comprehend rationally, is able to see anyone through the journey of life.  It will see us through on a routine day or in the middle of the worst trials.  Peace is a promise of God.
