Keep my soul and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in you. (Psalm 25:20)
David did not go from being a favorite person in the king's court to being king. The Lord allowed David to be in exile for more than 10 years. All of that time, God was refining certain leadership skills in David. In exile, he learned to trust God in all cir****tances. Those years of being on the run from Saul, often fearful for his very life, were years that the Lord used to refine certain abilities in David. He also used them to make him an excellant statesman and military commander as well as a compassionate leader and provide for his followers. First and Second Samuel are great books to read. They tell the story of David and how he overcame much adversity by totally relying on God. If we put our trust in God, He will never let us down.
