I am three and a half years past surgery, so my goal today is to take the puppy for a mile walk and do at least 50 sit ups.

I am 4 years out and I did not exercise today except walking around a very busy WalMart after going to spend my mother's birthday with her.  I cannot walk in the cold.  It just hurts me so badly to be in the cold.  I am gonna break out my George Foreman walking CD as soon as things calm down from the holidays.

Walking is supposed to be the best exercise.  I think it is hard to do alone.  However, it is hard to organize a group effort, too.

Our Parks and Recreation Association offers an indoor suspended track and weight room for $75 per person per year, if you are over 55.  I have a membership; however, a card in my wallet is not getting the body toned up.  But lots of towns have similar plans and you don't have to have an expensive gym membership or worry about where to store that equipment.

I also have a regular bike.  I haven't gotten it out in a while.  I love it but I have it parked at the wrong end of the garage to be used successfully.

Finally, walking in the cold burns more calories, because you have to keep warm, too.  But when all else fails, go to Walmart and leave your money, credit cards, and everything that will allow you to spend money in the car...and just walk around.  It's warm and it is good exercise and they are open all night.
