.. when are you going to learn that the content is seldom as exciting as the subject ?

Jake is a Great Dane that we resuced. He was abondoned and chained to a tree. He was starved and near death. We were told that he had bitten some people and needed a bullet in his head. To make a long story short, he has gained more than 50 pounds since moving into my back yard. He plays with Cinderella and Tinkerbell, without eating them. He plays with the grandkids and has never even growled at them. Needless to say, he didnt get a bullet and he made a lovely pet.

Wonderful!  This is nostolgic for me.  In my late teens my aunt had a Great Dane named Duke.  He was in a fenced back yard--was a very big dog and verry friendly.  If he was not thru playing and you wanted to go inside he would just lay against the door so you could not open it.  Now Duke as as tall as me (on his hind feet) and must have weighed in at 200 plus--so there was no pulling him from the door.  So, the game then was to go to the back of the fence and play with Duke and distract him and then race for the back door to try and get there before him.  He won a lot of the time LOL.
Thanks for sharing Jake, and thanks for saving him.

Jake is not as big as Duke. (Malnurtition may have stunted his growth). Currently he weighs in at 133 so he's not wimpy but not as big as others. I know what you are saying about racing him to the door. I keep milkbones on hand so when he wins, I can toss one out and when he goes after it, I close the door.

The main problem we have is stores dont stock things for mammoth dogs. I reckon they think everybody owns toy dogs so chew toys are designed for tiny breeds. Jake chews on the hose pipe, old tires, buckets, pretty much anything we leave in the yard, is a toy to him.

He is beautiful!  It amazes me how just the right home can fix anything or anyone!!  Pets are like we are.  All they want is LOVE, affection, and some attention.  A bullet?  Whoever said that was WRONG!!  Look at him!!

You should have seen him when we found him. He was covered with sores and his hair had fallen out. He was a skeleton.

Im so glad you rescued him.  Animals and children should not be treated that way.

Matthew 181-:6
1At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

2He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

We know Jesus has reserved a special place for those who mistreat children.  I think that those who mistreat animals may find themselves there also:
