Just got back from St. Vincent's in B'ham.  I went to an ortho doctor there as referred by my PCP.  I just loved the doctor I met today.  He was wonderful, but I got bad news.  I am going to have to have shoulder surgery AGAIN.  I was told I had rotator cuff surgery 18 months ago and also bone spurs and bursitis.  Well, according to the specialist I saw today, my previous ortho surgeon did NOTHING to my rotator cuff.  There are no bone spurs, so apparently that is ALL he did.  My new dr. said there would be places where he'd drilled and screws if he'd repaired my rotator cuff and NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING showed on the MRI that I had had ANYTHING done to my rotator cuff.  After my PCP sent me for the MRI 3 weeks ago, he sent me back to the surgeon that did my surgery.  All he wanted to do was pump me full of cortizone and anti inflammartory meds, of which neither I can take due to WLS and diabetes.  This new dr. said those would do me NO GOOD.  That due to the fact the rotator cuff had not been repaired, there are now other issues at hand.  I have several other tears that need to be repaired also.  What a mess. He said I have quite a bit of damage that needs to be repaired.  I am just devastated to say the least.  The first surgery 18 months ago was so painful and now I have to go thru it all again with 6-8 more weeks of PT afterwards.  Ya'll, I'm asking that you please keep me in your prayers.  Also, I am right handed and this is my right shoulder.  I also have some problem with my elbow and hopefully this surgery will correct it too.  Thanks for reading and praying....

Loretta I will definitely have you in my prayers.  I hate this for you.  That is awful that you were told by a surgeon that the rotator cuff had been fixed and it has not.  I know the pain my mom went through and I hate that you will have to go through that again.  I am gonna pray that God eases that pain an easy recovery.  Love you!!

Elle,

I am SO sorry you are going through this and so glad you found a doc worth his salt.  Please know you are in my prayers!

You're in my prayers. I do believe though that you should persue that first doctor who supposedly did the surgery on your rotator cuff. If you were charged for it then I don't see how he can get away with that. I definitely think there's something fishy somewhere. When my mother was young she had a hysterectomy - supposedly a total one but surprise, surprise. She started having female problems many years later and it was discovered that the surgeon did not do a total hysterectomy, not even a partial. I can't remember all the details but mama dropped it and never did anything. To me that is wrong. That surgeon could put people's lives in danger. A liar is a liar. If he has no scruples then what else is he saying he's doing and not doing or vice versa. I know you are in a lot of pain and it probably doesn't matter right now but eventually you really should at least confront this man and not just by speaking - take the results with you.

Thank you all for your advice.  You know.....I was sent to him with the last MRI results and he told me that when having had rotator cuff surgery an MRI could predict FALSE readings.  Duh, I think NOT, and I mentioned this to the dr. in B'ham.  He said that was NOT TRUE.  SO,  I really appreciate all the advice here and I will eventually let him know that I KNOW THE TRUTH. And I will take my prognosis to him.  I'm just too mad to confront him right now, so I will wait till after I have surgery and am better. (I think)  He needs to know I KNOW THE TRUTH and that he lied to me. Please keep on praying, cause right now I am a very unhappy woman.
