Ok, it's been over 6 months since my last chemo treatment and I'm thinking to myself - surely I can stop wearing this wig. Ok, I wash my hair and and let it dry. I look in the mirror and all I see is salt and pepper twigs sticking up. My DH hubby keeps telling me it looks fine and your head needs to breathe. He convinces me its not too short to wear it like this to work. I proceed in the office without looking in any mirrors. My new boss walks in and the first words out of his mouth are: How's it going Slick?? I wanted to crawl under my desk. Of course he was just being his silly old self but I'm so self conscious about my hair right now and I am so embarrassed. I made myself leave my wig at home so that I would have to get used to this but it sure is making me want to hide. I'll have to take a pic and let you guys see. I had my new driver's license made without the wig just so I'd have something to look back at to get a good laugh. I never knew that cancer is more than a disease in your body. It tries to destroy not only your life but your personality, your relationships, your outlook on life and everything that makes you who you are. Well, I'm not giving into it. I just hung a mirror up over my desk and I'm going to look at myself every chance I get and then I'm going to say a prayer to thank God for allowing me to still be here today and for giving me the courage to keep on fighting!!
It's me!!! I'm here!! I'm alive!! I'm a winner not a loser!!
I love you all!

Hey there my precious friend!!!! Well...your boss could have had a little better manners there, but they don't. You know...you ARE my hero in so many ways. I love you DebbieDoo and honestly do not know how you have done it...well yes I do, your faith in God has kept you going, but I am not sure I could have been as graceful and strong as you. I love ya and you just know that you are so very very special to me.
Hey there sweetie!
Change the way you look at it! Think of the positive aspects....
How much you save on shampoo & styling products!
How much cooler you are during this blasted heat!
No bad hair days, a curl that won't curl, frizz, straight as a board...
How much you save on salon services, hair cuts, perms, coloring....
The time you save on not having to fuss with it!
How "light" & "free" it must feel!
If you get caught in the rain no "Oh my goodness, my hair"!
No "bed head" or "hat hair"!
The list goes on! Girlfriend, if I thought I could carry it off & my hubby wouldn't have an anurism, I would shave mine off in a heartbeat. My daughter has always had super short hair (her tiny face is perfect for it) & has been known at times to get a burr (talk about makin a Mama happy! lol especially when I found out the used SHEEP shears!
). She loves it!
When you look at the mirror, don't look at the negative! Smile, be proud! Think of all the times you saw a lil kid with a burr & rubbed their head, remember how it always made ya smile? Channel that!
Love YOU...not your hair... DebbieDoo is STILL DebbieDoo!

I don't mind my hair being short but its not even an inch long yet. I have noticed lately that there are other women who wear their hair this short so that is some consolation. And you have pointed out some really good benefits. Especially the rain - lol, I love getting my hair wet. I just shake it like a dog and go on my way. LOL
I'll try harder to smile at the reflection but sometimes I may just have to laugh out loud.
Love you,
DebbieDoo
