This is really off topic, but need some help from my friends in AL!

I am planning to take my kids to the beach either next month or possibly in September. My oldest has never been and he'll be 5 in September. I've heard nothing but good things about Orange Beach, so thats the area I'm looking at. But, there are soo many places to stay and I can't make up my mind. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay? Needs to be inexpensive, but not a roach motel. A condo on the beach would be incredible too, but not at $300+ a night. I'm not made of money folks... hahaha.  :)   Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Oh... and what about things for the kids to do?

In Gulf Shores, which is right before Orange Beach, there is a condo-hotel, called the Phoenix Hotel...they are one bedroom condos, and there is a pull out sofa, and bunk beds built in.....and they rent like hotel rooms...no cleaning fees!

Leo and I always stay at the Hilton Garden. It's right on the beach and we usually get a beachfront room. I've worked with the same girl for many years and would be glad to pass you her name if you're interested in trying to get a great rate.

I like to stay at Sugar Beach.. its way kid friendly. 4 pools..and its also cheap. I use Eddie and teddy from gulfshorescondos.com and they always give me a great deal and their condos are really nice. Also they give you the option to clean yourself and save the cleaning fee..

Gulf Shores is where we ALWAYS go.  My parents have  condos at Regetta.  They are not like staying in a Hilton but they are very nice and clean.  We use a rental company called Three Palms Realty,  their web site is www.3palmsre.com .  I am not sure but I believe the fall rates are around $100 a night  for either one of them, 202c or 203c.  They are both two bedroom and two baths and on the beach side with beach views from balcony.  Hope you guys have fun!

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area is great - you'll find plenty to do with your kids there.  Be sure to check into the off-season rates.  It's amazing how much the price drops when Fall rates kick in.  And it is still plenty warm enough to enjoy the sun and surf!

Try VRBO.com  this is vacation rental by owner
there is a club called surf and raquetball club and it is in gulf shores. it is cheap and super well located. It is across a small, barely used road from the beach and has a great pool and lagoon where boats can dock.
there are several different rooms and sizes too choose from and the ones we have stayed at are all super nice. We have paid between 150 and 175 a night to sleep 3-4. They have kitchens and balconies. They are a little off the main stretch but we liked that about it.
