Yes, you can use your laptop on the ship. There is a fee that you have to pay for access and you can pay on a per minute basis or buy a chunk of time. I find it easier to just use the Internet cafe than taking my laptop along. Trust me...those cabins are small and fill up quickly with all the stuff you bring. Besides, I don't wanna have to worry about keeping up with it and you don't know if the signal will be strong enough in your cabin (you may have to take it up on deck to get a connection...depends on where your cabin is and how strong the signal is on your ship).
I was surprised that there was a Starbucks in Puerto Rico when I was there on a cruise two years ago. They are obviously EVERYWHERE. I am glad to hear there is one in Cozumel because I will be there myself next month! Glad I saved that $20 gift card I got for Christmas. The last cruise I was on had a coffee shop too, but I have to admit I didn't use it. We got plain ole coffee from room service every morning and it was surprisingly good. We would put in an order before we went to bed for room service to be delivered around the time we were expecting to get up so there was no waiting for it to arrive....kinda like a wake up call with coffee. NICE! Sometimes we would also order up continental breakfast to come with it so we didn't have to rush down to breakfast (mostly for the kids....who seem to wake up starving). Definitely use room service...even if it's just for dessert late at night.
Another thing that we do that saves a little cash outlay (and intestinal problems) is to pack a 24 pack of bottled water. We usually pack it in a small (rolling) suitcase. You can stick them in the fridge in your cabin so you always have cold water to take off the ship with you and to the pool. Then at the end of the cruise, you have an extra suitcase to pack all those souvenirs home that you bought. Just a thought!

Sandi,
You are so right about using ROOM SERVICE on the cruises. It is great to have a quick light breakfast, coffee, or juices in the morning--or for a late night
snack. People need to take advantage of the room service and one thing that I was surprised by on my cruises was that room service is FREE! Yep, that is right, FREE. Included in the price of the crusie.
A little tip for the delivery person is nice, but a small price to pay! On the Carnival cruises that I have been on, the room service menu has been in a Navy Blue binder that is in the room. The door hanger/order forms have also been in that same binder or you can call the order in.
I have always taken soft drinks and water on the cruise I have been on. I pack them in a rolling
upright cooler that I have. I measures about the size of a small suitcase--and you can check it with the checked luggage. The room steward has always kept my cooler filled with ice and then you can bring back a container or two of yogurt from the dining room and have it for a snack as well. What I have also found on the ships I have been on is that unless you are in a Suite or Balcony room, they have not had refrigerators in the rooms. I think if you request on for medications, they may bring a small one to the room but on the ships I have been on, (Inspiration/Fantasy/Holiday) they have not been standard in the rooms.
As for the laptops, I do take mine--On the Fantasy cruise out of New Orleans, I was on the Verandah deck and did have a good connection in my room. On the Holiday, main deck--I had no connection in the room.
Check once you get on the ship--but I have found that the "package deals" are the cheaper way to go. And I believe it is the first day that they have some special offer where if you buy so many minutes, you get some extra ones free--but I think that is only offered on the first day of the cruise.
I just know all the cruisers are going to have such a great time. I have enjoyed each cruise that I have been on and am looking forward to when I can plan another. It will be a while--but I am going to go again as soon as I can!
You guys all have a nice trip, relax and enjoy your time. I am sure it will be nice for all of you seeing each other and getting to spend some time together again.
Happy Sailing all!
