Anyone out there new and researching the WLS?
Debbie, while I am not new, I am a patient of Dr. Mailapur's (and you're spelling it right.) I highly recommend you attending this seminar (even if you decide to change surgeons). He also answers any questions you have at the end of the seminar. Make sure you remember the date you attended. You will need it for insurance purposes and when you schedule your appointment with his office.
The only other suggestions I have for you is:
1. check out books at the library. They have a pretty good selection. I eventually purchased my own. You can also attend the support group meetings held on the 1st Thursday of every month @ 5 for lap banders & @ 6 for gastric bypass patients. They are also held I believe on the 3rd Wednesday at 10 a.m. for both groups. These are all held at the Wellness Center at the Medical Mall. This board is also helpful. The best information I think I received is from former patients because they have gone through the process.
2. Call your insurance company and get their exact requirements. Also get the person's name. I printed out the requirements and checked them off as I completed them. I also called them back as I got closer to completing the 6 month medically supervised diet (actually 7 visits) to make sure nothing had changed.
