I am just starting out on this weight loss venture.  I am full of questions.  Does insurance pay for all the surgeon, nutritionist type visits before surgery?  What about all of the tests you have to have done....like bloodwork, EKG, chest xray, sleep study, etc???  Who pays for that?  I gather insurance doesn't pay for anything until you are approved for surgery?

I had to pay for the visit to see Linda at the wellness center. Since I didn't have sleep apnea Dr. M didn't have me go thru a sleep study. All the other tests insurance covered based on my plan coverage. If you don't have FSA I highly recommend it!

Good luck!

my insurance covered everything except for the psych eval, which is something they required and would have covered but the doc i went to didn't file claims with insurance. it was only 200 dollars for self pay, though, so it wasn't really too bad when you figure in all the other stuff. good luck!

My insurance covered almost everything.  All i had to pay was my copay to the nutrionist, i never paid the phycoligist anything, and i paid $75 consult with Dr. Sherer i think.  My insurance paid 50% of surgeon fee and i paid him $1106.00 before surgery. I paid the hospital my deductiable and copays that day too.  $130.00.  PRe op testing was $25 copay.  I had already gone and had my yearly physicals with my dr , my cardiologist, my GYN.  I had covered all that before i went to see Dr. Sherer.
