I took my cake out of the oven 10 minutes ago. I would not tell you how it looked until I tasted it. It's a dirty job but somebody has to do it. I tried it using 3/4 cup cornola and 1/2 cup(opposed to 3/4 cup) water. I baked it 40 minutes and it was jiggly(like my arms) so I baked it 10 minutes more. My stran of spagitti still had batter on it so I cooked 10 more minutes, total of 60 minutes. And for people who don't understand using spagitte in a cake. It's used to test for doneness. When you think the cake is done insert a stran of spagitti and if it's not done some of the batter will stick to it. Works much better than a toothpick. My cake turned out great. A little darker than some people would like but a loooooong way from being burned. In fact I could say that it is just a culenary work of art, but that would be bragging and you know I would never do that. It tasted even better than it looked. I ate a large piece of it and waiting to see if it kills me.I don't know what went wrong with your cake, maybe you didn't hold your mouth right. You might want to reduce the oil to 1/2 and the water to 1/2. But I noticed with mine that when I mixed the eggs, water and oil. At first it was real runny after I had beat it with my mixer for two minutes it was nice and thick. I then added the floured pecans and the can of icing and mixed well by hand(never mix with a mixer)and it was still nice and thick. The cake is real moist but not gummy. I think you are just trying to get me to bake you a cake and bring it to you and visit a while.
Now I've got a pan of cornbread in the oven and a pot of vegetable soup on the stove. I'm fixing to pack it up and take it with the cake out of this house. Then I'm coming home and hibernate.
You have a wonderful night and I will eat a piece of my cake for you. Love, Miss Mary

Evening Mary, I am SURE that cake is NOT to dark for my liking. And to tease me by telling me that you have cornbread in the oven! That is just not right!!
Noting like some good hot just out of the oven cornbread with some sliced peaches over the top of it.
Yummy....I think I am on my way to your house!

Good morning Mary,

I have been pondering this cake since I first read about it here on the board.  I'm wondering if you were to reduce the oil to 1/2 cup and water to 1/2 like you suggested, then mix like any other cake.  Of course saving the floured  pecans and frosting until ready to add to the pan.  OK, I see this is confusing here but when the cake mix is beaten enough, pour half into the pan.  Mix the frosting and pecans together then pour into the pan as a second layer.  The third layer would be the remaining cake batter.  Maybe then it would have a gooey middle similiar to that chocolate molten cake mix you can buy.  Applebee's has a molten chocolate cake that the center runs chocolate syrup.  Oh my, I'm need'n chocolate real bad right now.  I gotta wake Glenn and find chocolate soooooonn.  Juju's cake has started something here.

Have a great day baking everybody.  It's too cold for anything else, except a cup of coffee with that cake while you read a good book.
