Post Op Taste Changes - Need Info from the Experts

OK, so since having RNY in August, I have found that my tastes have changed and it seems that my daily menu has changed considerably.  I no longer like scrambled eggs, but have changed over to boiled eggs and now I suddenly find myself eating strange things for breakfast that are not normally breakfast foods....For instance, this morning I had some black eyed peas that were left over from dinner last night.

I don't really like sweet things in the morning so I usually eat things like cereal or oatmeal at night.  I'm really just wanting feedback from others on how their tastes have changed since having the surgery.

Thanks bunches....
Stephanie

Stephanie all of us have gone thru the strange changes in our tastes. What you like today you may not like next week. The main thing is to get in your protein and water. I can almost vouch for almost ever body that we all hated eggs at one point in our early days. If you want peas or beans for breakfast eat them. My husband thinks that I am strange for liking cold fish, but it is protein so that is all that matters. I am almost 6 years out and still find things that I don't like any long and things that I will eat now that I would never have touched pre-op.

I am the same way. And alot of times I like the stuff cold - not heated. Strange but if it works and stays down I'm happy with that.

Are you going to be able to make tonight's meeting? I hope so! I'm excited to hear Dr. Alicia speak tonight. It's an earlier time but we did it to fit into her schedule and it will be at her office.
If not, I hope to see you soon. I need to come walk with you. I need a walking buddy.
I start work next week so I better get with you!!

Stephanie, it's been the same for me. I've just started eating food that is good for me, whether it is "the right" time of day or not. a while back, it was cold chicken for breakfast and this morning it was beef jerky. I say, just do whatever works for you. You are doing a great job! :)

Oh yes! Eating sometimes is a challenge cause I just don't wanna. I have eaten canned ravioli for breakfast because I could not stand the thought of another egg.
You'll get the hang of it.

Tastes change - it's that simple.  Now when the dr's office told me this, I scoffed - how could I not want the things I'd loved pre-surgery???  But it's soooooo true.  Never in my life had I wanted coffee -- 2yrs post WLS, I started drinking it.   Never been a fan of turnip greens, collards or brussel sprouts - now I can't get enough.
As for the "strange things" - been there, too.  Cold fish, steak, even pickles or olives are sometimes my breakfast.  I've just learned to go with the flow, lol.

Hey Stephanie!

My tastes have definitely changed too.  I no longer like my eggs scrambled (with cheese), but prefer them fried now.  And one thing I used to LOVE was french fries and now I can't stand even to look at them.  I think my tastes are still evolving and I am almost a year out.  Just as long as you are eating healthy doesn't mean you can't eat what you want.

Stephanie, I had ryn 2 1/2 yrs ago and am still amazed at the change in my taste buds- before surgery I would never touch coffee and I absolutely cannot make it through the day without my coffee (my husband still shakes his head). I cannot stand the taste of plain water-must always have some sort of flavor in my water. Before surgery loved mac & cheese(was a staple in our weekly menus-3-4 times a week) now its only once in awhile I mean like 3-6 times a YEAR!! I hated anything green and now I love brocc & cheese must have 2-3 times a week. I too believe anything goes for breakfast-chicken,fish, steak all the night before left overs. So you are not alone...
