OT: whats there to do around here?

Since I took the semester off from school to live in Colombia and get my surgery, I really don't have anything going on in my life. I find myself stuck at home with absolutely nothing to do. I have a few hobbies (photography), but I've lost interest.

I wouldn't mind driving an hour or so. I live in Hoover. About 15 minutes from Birmingham.
My question is, where is there to go around here?
What is there to do besides the Galleria mall, movies, and bowling?
(I'm not into bars and clubs)
Any cool places?

i live much further south but Birmingham offers a lot of wonderful places to go and things to see.  I am an outdoor person so I love the Botanical gardens as well as the Vulcan.  There are a lot of beautiful trails and parks.  But it has been so many years since I was there...all I can say is get involved with a public service area as a volunteer.  You will meet good people with big hearts and possibly make some life long friends.  Sorry that's all I have in the way of suggestions.

Yeah, since I love photography, I've been to Botanical Gardens and the Vulcan sooo many times. The Vulcan gives a great view of the city. Its fantastic.

Thats a great idea to start doing some community service work!

I hear ya... I am glad you are not into bars and clubs, as in our area there aren't really any that rock my boat. There are a few cool hip bars at 5 points, but thats about it. I live about 15 minutes south of you. If you find something let me know! There are some cool art galleries in Homewood that I like to check out from time to time.

Art galleries? Hmm... I'm surprised I haven't heard of any. What kind of things do they display? It it paintings, sculptures, photography...? Regardless, I would love to check those out sometime. Thanks! Oh and a friend suggested a place called Lookout Mountain at sunset. I'm not sure where its located but apparently you can see 3 states from it. Do you happen to know where this is?

If it is the place I think they are talking about that would be near Chattanooga TN.
