My surgery is Thursday, and I was hoping for some ideas on what to pack and to expect while in the hospital.  I welcome any words of encouragement.  Thanks.

Just wanted to say congrats on your Surgery

Nothing tastes as good as being thinner feels.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

Hi Eula...congratulations on your surgery!!!!  Take something comfortable to wear that is easy to get on and off.  Chap stick of some form.  Of course your toiletries.  You may want to take some s/f mints of some type if your doctor allows.  My mouth got very very dry.  Just take anything to make you more comfortable.  Maybe even your own pillow.  I usually take mine wherever I go.  Where will your surgery be??  I wish you all the best.

Every doctor does things a little different, but here is what my doctor did after my surgery.  When I woke up, I was already in my room.  I was attached to a morphine pump, which I promptly requested off...don't like morphine.  My catheter was removed pretty quickly after I woke up.  They had me up and walking the same day...walking is good to get the gas out of your system.  I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything the first day....didn't want to so that was no problem.  I was sent down the next morning to drink some contrast and did a "leak test" to make sure that I didn't have any leaks.  Then on the second day I was allowed clear liquids, and was put on a stric****er sipping regime.  I had to be able to get ALL the required water in.  I was released on the third morning.  I think I had to prove that I could go to the bathroom (sorry if TMI) before I could be released.
