Exterior/Interior Paint Ideas

The outside of my Dad's house is a very light brown, beige, tan color.  The old door was a apricot color.  That worked fine in years past, but he has just put in a new door and I have to paint it over the holidays.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what is a current and good color for the door?  The house is a cottage style with siding.  So the basic color of the house is set.

A little research is saying that either a darker brown or some shade of green is the most popular to update it now, but I am unsure of this and looking for ideas.  Is anyone out there gifted in this area of paint selection for both the inside and out side of the house?  I would like to hear some suggestions.

There is a house near me recently painted that tan, beige color.  The window trim is white and the front door and shutters are black.  Glossy black.  It's an elegant look. Sounds dull, I know, but it really looks nice.

I too have seen the black doors...with the type of home you are talking about, and it is CLASSY!!!
I AGREE with John.

Green would also be nice...In my opinion...I would NOT use Brown.  It would be TOO dull for the home.  Again, just my opinion!

What area inside the home are you thinking of painting?

I will be doing the livingroom, 2 bedrooms, hall, and kitchen.  Oh, yes, and I will either paint or paper the utility room.   There has been a major overhaul of the house.  New doors, wall furnace removed, switch box moved, air conditioner removed from out of the wall, etc.  Big holes were left and so had to be patched.  Now, they have to be painted.  I painted the bathroom a year or so ago.  It is orchid and white....my dad's choice and his favorite color for a bathroom.

Our house is mostly brick, with tan trim.  Our shutters and door are a deep hunter green.  I think it looks nice.  We went with a glossy dark green upon the recommendation of our painter.  It turned out to be a great decision.
