PLEASE pray and a precious story

As many of you know I am about to complete my internship for my BSW(Social Work) and today was the SADDEST day thus far.  Working with hospice  I knew it would be a challenge, but I did not in any way want to deal with children. Well, yesterday I had the honor of meeting this precious little 6 year old boy(our patient) who has battled neuroblastoma for 3 1/2 years.  Upon our arrival at his home his parents had just finished making his little handprint in plaster. His mom had washed his hand, but he was picking at "the white dots."  I went up to introduce myself to him and he asked if I see "white dots" and told him my eyes didn't see that great, but if he would like for me to look at his hand that he would need to bring it closer to me. After a couple seconds he laid his little precious hand on mine for me to exam his for "white dots".  He was still feeling the plaster, so I asked his permission to wash his hand again. He said "OK" so I washed his little hand. He was satisfied with "our teamwork" and did not "pick" anymore. This afternoon he earned his wings and became an   in Heaven. This little boy was his young parents ONLY child and they gave that little boy every chance at recovery but all treatment failed.  This young family has so much faith and to listen to them talk would give anyone chills.  It was so nice to hear them talk about they had been praying all morning for GOD to take HIS child back. They knew that their GOD would not allow him to suffer. I had only briefly met this family, but it was such an honor to have washed "the white dots" off of this precious little boys hand and I will always hold that memory close to my heart.

I apologize this post is so long but I felt I needed to share this touching story with you all.  I do ask that anyone who would join me in praying for this family and give thanks for a healthy child.

Hugs to all,
Beth

Brandy,
I have been teary eyed all evening and the only thing that has helped me is to recall my brief visit with this precious little boy. There is a bit more to this story but didn't want to make the post any longer.  I can honestly say this little angel was SO loved by his parents, family, community, and too many professionals to mention.

Thanks for replying and for adding this family to your prayer list.

What a beautiful touching story after all we have experienced on the board today. Thank you. And bless you for the trials you have had to go through. You are a very strong person. I don't think I could have been so graceful in those last moments. I wish you the best with the rest of your internship. May it not be as hard as today....

Gisela,
After I posted this I began to read the earlier post and my heart sank.  You are so sweet to say such things about me.  I am ONLY a small piece of the puzzle that it takes to help these hospice patients and their families through their journey of a terminal illness.

Everytime I see SPONGEBOB I will forever think of this little trooper.

My internship is completed on December 4 and graduation is on the 12th.

I hope all is going great with you these days.

Things are going well. With the job I now have, I hardly ever have time to post, but I'm on vacation and not sleepy and see what happens...here I am again. I just lurk to check on everyone. Graduation is right around the corner! I'm so proud of you...one of the last posts I remember is that your son was having trouble in school and ya'll were thinking of moving. i guess all has worked out since you are in school now, too.
Well, I'm off to bed, but I'll check the boards again sometime tomorrow.

Gisela,
I usually only have time these days to lurk myself, but sometimes am able to post.  We did move to the Gulf Coast in MS and both my sons are doing good.  I am glad you are on vacation. I wish I had a vacation.  Enjoy your time off.
