NEW here! upcoming surgery
Just wanted to say hello! I'm having Gastric bypass Aug. 20th in Anniston, AL by Dr. Bryan Freeman.
If anyone here had surgery by Dr. Freeman would care to share their experience I would love to hear.
Or for anyone, I think my one question is what to excpect when i first wake up? Would that be in the recovery room I guess?
I have had laproscopic gallbladder removal 15 years ago when I was like 24. I hope this surgery compares to that one....I've also had two c-sections....
anyway wanted to say hello!!!! getting a tad bit nervous, but even more so excited!

WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!!!
When you wake up you will be sore but the best thing I can tell you is to WALk, WALK, WALK!!!! and then when you can't walk anymore do it....
When they do the surgery they fill you fill of gas . so they can see better from what I am told) and the walking helps relieve that pressure from it. But after the first week you will wonder did they do anything to me? I know I am not hungry but shouldn't I be hurting...
I was really nervous and excited ..... my emotions were wild.. as a matter of fact the night before the surgery I didn't sleep a WINK....
I love to tell my story and answer questions. so if you have any more questions please fee free to ask...

Donna, Personally, I think you've chosen the BEST surgeon around!!
**And you can tell him I said that**
I remember waking in the recovery room, for a very brief second. Next thing I remember, I was in my room. Dr. F gives you that pain pump, and believe me, I pushed that button every time I woke up, whether I felt anything or not, lol. I do remember a very heavy feeling on my chest & stomach, but as for pain, there wasn't really anything. I begged the nurse to take out the IV & catheter so I could take a shower, and I was up & dressed by noon on the day after surgery, after the swallow test. That part wasn't fun, but not all that bad, either. It's worth it to get that popsicle when you're done! I was in my PJs when Dr. F & Tim came in later that day, and they both said they felt guilty making me stay another night! I took the liquid lortab home with me, but barely even took any of that. I honestly didn't feel any pain. Like others will tell you, get up & walk as soon as you possibly can - it helps so much with the gas & soreness.
Nerves are to be expected, but you will do fine! I"d never had surgery of any kind, so I had no idea what to expect. Knowing that the weight was gonna start coming off kept me motivated! My brother was 6mos ahead of me, and I'd been sooooo jealous of his success, I couldn't wait to get started.
Good luck to ya!!
