New to this

Welcome Theresa. I'm in nearby Montgomery. I had my surgery several years ago with Dr. Stahl in Alabaster. I also have BC/BS but back then we weren't required to provide much at all. I had no trouble getting approval and everything was done within 2 months.

I grew up in Montgomery. Know it well. I understand why BCBS has placed all the hoops to jump through, so I'm not too upset. All of the other places that I've worked for since I've become overweight would not even consider paying for the surgery. So I'm greatful that BCBS will.

WELCOME!!  And congrats on making this decision.   You'll hear from everyone on their choice of surgeon...personally, I think MINE is the best, lol.  (www.freemanandco.com)  I have BCBS (but not PEEHIP) so I can't help with the particulars.  Once you choose a surgeon, the insurance person there will be your bestest friend!!  They are usually well versed and know all the ins & outs.  Linda at Dr. Freeman's was such a huge help - she outlines everything from the beginning and will do everything she can to help you get approved, quickly!!

HI  Welcome to OH,  this is a great source for info.  I used Dr Freeman in Anniston.  I am not sure if that is close to you or not.   I live in Ga, and lots of people use one Dr in Atlanta.   BUT after much research and praying, I was led to Dr Freeman.   I have never regreted that decision.  I had no trouble with getting approved with my ins.  Beverly, the insurance co-ordinator  took care of everything for me.  All I had to have was a referral from my PCD and to document my weight loss attempts. Mu ins is with United Halthcare.... I had my surgery on 6-24 and as of today I have lost 35 lbs.   While I know that most people will recommend their Dr, just make sure you feel comfortable with your choice.  This is the BEST thing I have done for myself.  ........the best thing you can do is make an appointment with a Dr, and if you don't feel comfortable, go to another.   Good Luck  

Thank you! I just wish the intial visits weren't so dang expensive. I just started the 7 month diet last month, so I have a little bit of time to find a doctor. It seems that there are quite a few in Alabama.

I don't know how close you are but I used Doctor Dewitt in Birmingham... HE and is staff are AWESOME!!!! My mom and my sister had with different docs and I still think my experience was the BEST!!!!!!

I have BCBS but not the end thing.. I did a 6 month diet which entelled 7 visit on a monthly basis to my PCP. It could not be over 30 days inbetween the visits!!

Their will be a seminar with Dr. Dewitt Saturday August 9 if you are intrested let me know.

I've actually talked to Dr. Dewitt's office and they said that the meeting on Saturday the 9th is at capacity. I'll have to go to the one in Sept. I have a friend that used Dr. Dewitt as well and LOVED him.
