Hi Ginger The only pills I take are two prenatal WalMart brand frist thing in the am  along with a B-12 that goes under the tongue 2500 mcg one .  Five hours later (very important ) I take 2 Citracal with D ...Five hours later 2 more citracal and I am done.  It doesnt have to be exactly five hours but needs to be AT LEAST 5 hours after or longer .. I am at 5 years , started this as soon as I got home from hospital and I have never had any kind of problem. I use a pill container to keep me on key and it works for me like a charm .  On weekends it lies on my dining room table where i can see it so I dont forget , through the week on my desk at work all week and comes home with me on Friday where I refill it on Sunday .. Hope your journey is a great one  Hugs and blessing to you  Eat your protein ASAP after surgery so your hair loss will be small ...My Dr says that anyway , I did it and mine was great so I guess it worked :)  Shirley

I take all my vitamins and supplements to work with me. I work 11pm to 7am, set them out on my desk, as I have one or two, depending on what it is, I put it back into my work bag so I know what I have left to take. I am now using the calcium petites, since I cant find the chews anymore but I usually get them all in during my 8 hour shift. The petites are much smaller and I take 4, or two at a time, just have to wait 2 hours before taking my iron. I use sublingual B12. Ive always had a high B12 count, so have never had to go to the injections. Now when Im off, it is different but I try my best. The rest of my usual meds, i take when I get home, before bed.

Vitalady sells the powdered UPcalD which I have heard is a good product. It is a powdered calcium supplement, that mixes easily in whatever drink your having, you may want to check into that since you cant swallow pills.

Thanks Sandy. I am taking it that you must be a nurse or did I read that somewhere. I have also worked the 11 to 7 shift and the 7p to 7a shift. My 7 to 7 I worked in L&D. I absoutely loved it. I still miss nursing so much but can't handle all the walking and standing with my feet. Thanks for the help about getting in all these meds. I have got the Building Block calcium that is chewable and very good. Just getting in a routine is the problem,

Your welcome, Louise. yes, i am a nurse. i work in psych and absolutely love it, on the 11-7 shift. Not so much walking and being on my feet but the paperwork!! We kill enough tree's to get environmentalist's to protest. It is unreal. I love working with these patients.

Louise, It looks like you have gotten some good responses to your question.  One important thing that I want to add is that you should NOT take your multivitamin and calcium at the same.  The iron in the multivitamin causes you not to absorb the calcium properly.  Also, take calcium in 500-600mg doses or less.  Your body only has the ability to absorb 500-600mg of calcium at a time. I hope this information will be helpful. Take care.  Stefanie :)

Louise, I am so glad you posted this.  I too have trouble remembering to take all the darn meds.   I put them all in my medicine container and I take it with me to work or slip it in my purse to help me remember.  I still have trouble.  I will look at it and think....I need to take that.  I know I need to take them.  I preach it as a nurse to my patients.  Argh.... I need to practice what I preach.  I like a lot of the suggestions that you have gotten.  I think I will try some of them to make me do right!  I don't want to have bone loss either.  I will encourage you and you encourage me.  LOL Beth

Louise: I am another that has a handful of pills.  When I get up in the morning with my first glass of water I take the 2 BP pills, cymbalta and sometimes meloxicam for arthritis.  I have one of those 7 day pill containers but each day has three compartments - morning, noon and night.  I have them loaded with my three citrical petites with vitamin D and my multi - Myadec. Just to be sure my watch alarm (you could use the cell phone alarm too) is set for midmorning (around 10) and mid afternoon (around 2) and that's when I get the calcium and multi in.  Right now I am having daily B12 injections due to my blood work last week. Today was week one - one more week of daily shots then I go weekly.  Finally after another couple of weeks I will be back on monthly.  My pharmacist has found a B12 that is a nasal spray and we are going to see if my PCP will approve that.  The pill container and alarm are the only things that keep me on track with my meds! Hey Louise! I do the weekly pill box also. I have them all in there. Believe me it's loaded! I also take the glucosamine for artritis. It works really well when I'm faithfull with the exercise. My bp is out of control also, along with my colesterol. YIKES! I'm now on a 80 mg lipitor pill a day for that. I'm so glad I can take pills. When I was having to crush them......EWWWY! I also take two of the calcium Calcet from Walmart. It says the pills have triple the calcium and vitamin D. The bottle actually says they are for leg cramps, which I have. So hopefully I'm knocking out two birds with one or two pills.  Also trying to avoid osteoporosis! Note: a friend of mine told me if you have to crush your pills put it in a little peanut butter and swallow it. Goes down much easier.  Wish I had known that right after surgery!  I'm taking two multi-vitamins a day, plus a b12. Ginger I wanted to add. I loved the Chike. To me it's absolutely the best protein powder made. Those days after surgery go fast. After that you can pretty much depend on getting enough protein from the food you eat.

Louise,  Try using a pill container and set your cell phone to "alarm" at each time interval that you need to take your pill.  No matter WHERE you will be, you will be reminded that you needed to take your MVI or Ca++ right then! Best Wishes and this works for my family! Jackie
