Topic: hello from Kentucky!!
Hi everyone.. Please allow me to introduce myself to you and tell you a bit about what I am doing. My name is Brenda Goldschmidt and I am an events specialist and surgeon liaison. I work for myself but have been recruited by Monica Ganz of OH to put together an event in Lexington, Ky for WLS patients. I am soooo excited about that. I met a couple of ladies on line the other day and have communicated alot with one particular one named Sandy, she has been great helping me find these boards. (which by the way are very difficult to find, I hope I can have some influence in changing that, prehaps they can make one board for all military..how would you feel about that?) I have a special place in my heart for all of you out there...I have alot of military in my family past and present...My father is a veteran, my husband is a veteran..my brother just retired in November after 30 yrs in the Airforce..my son is a jet pilot for the Coast Guard and my daughter is about to marry a man who is Iraq now..he will come home for two weeks this summer, long enough for them to marry then back to Iraq.. with all this being said let me get to the point..I would love to see you get together if at all possible and I know that's a big IF with so many in other countries, but perhaps this is something we can start...OH has events all over the country. What I would like to do is give special recognition for military..If you could join me in Lexington this summer, first let me say this would be a true honor for me..but I feel it would be a great start for future events. I have gone to Monica Ganz the events manager for OH and asked if I can offer you a special discount..She agreed. the cost of the particular event is $105.00....when I asked her to give me a discount for military I almost fell over, she said "of course, lets do it for $40.00 per person"...wow..that's awesome..i am excited about that and hope you are too... If you can join us in Lexington, Ky. please email me personally. [email protected] I will send you the registration form. I will do my best to help you find affordable hotels and a space where you can meet for your own reunion..I realized that many of you move around so it's hard to have support. I hope you have found it here on OH..and I hope I can be there to help make that connection stronger!! So many have no idea that the dependants left behind are also serving our country... Thank you...I hope we meet in October in Lexington!! Brenda

Hi Jennifer nice to met you. Congrats on your surgrey date as well. I will let you know how mine goes, of course I am sure it will be fine! It is never easy when we (AF wives) are left to deal with things on our own. I feel this is something I am doing for myself anyways but it will be nice to have my husband home for support! THanks for the replay and talk soon!!

OH Bee Bee I feel for you hun. I am at RAF Corughton, UK and been here since 2002. We leave Nov of this year. It is true, Tricare has had no approved Docs for WLS until this pasted month. I have been awaiting for 9 months for a dr. for WLS. I am having WLS Apil 11 with Mr. M. Hashemi in London. (Surgreons are called Mr. here and not Dr.) Tricare has also approved a Dr. Patal in London for WLS. You should have no problems getting your follow-ups in UK now. I do not know about the medical clearace hun cause I moved overseas befoer this surgrey. Email me anytime you like to chat. I like England, so much to see and do and the summer are awesome...winters are chilly and rainy..but these summers make uo for it. Goodluck!!! Karen

Topic: I don't know if I can handle this again(Overseas Orders)
I had surgery Feb. 2005. A couple of months later we found out we had orders to England in Sept. Two weeks before we were supposed to leave, I found out that I didn't get medical clearance. It said it was denied due to "lack of general medical facilities". They had issues because of all the follow up appts. I had with my surgeon. Granted I had no more than any other gastric bypass patient. They said just try again in about a year. I was devastated and went into severe depression. Not because we didn't get to move to England, but because I was told I was too sick to do so. Also before they denied us, I had quit my job and voluntarily given back our brand new van (which we are still paying on). WELL last week we got involuntary orders to go to England. We have to be there by Oct. 31. The last time we got orders my husband had volunteered, though it was long before i had even thought about surgery. I have to go through the whole process of getting medical clearance again. I don't know if I can emotionally handle it if I am denied again. This whole surgery has seriously done a number on my mental health. And this next part is no joke. We bought a slightly used, but still expensive car that we will be paying on for the next 6 years less than 1 month ago. And the day my husband found out about the orders was my 3rd day at my new job. I'm just now to the point physically and mentally to go back to work. I mentioned going back to work at my last psych appt. and he told me to hold off for a while longer that I still wasn't ready. But financially we couldn't afford it, especially with the new car so I went back to work anyway. And now this. Last time I felt physically able to handle a move abroad and I was denied. Now I don't feel mentally or physically able to even go through the process. Does anyone know if this will hinder getting medically cleared? And since this would be my 2nd medical clearance denial, will this impact my husband's career? He's been in for almost 10 years and we were planning on staying in for the full 20. Any advice or tales of similiar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
