Topic: Hey AF people, what can u tell me?
Hey my boyfriend is looking into joining the military. What can u tell me about the Air Force? Let me give u a little info about my family and what I've heard and so on..also u can see my profile too. My boyfriend is thinking about this, we live in a very poverty stricken town in Ohio, we're on HUD and I'm always scared that we'll be kicked off for whatever reason. We want out of this town and off of HUD. Here my boyfriend makes like $10 an hour which is great for here because it is cheap to live here, but making that much isn't going to help our future any as far as savings go and it certainly isn't going to get us out of this town..I am a stay at home mom to our two boys and don't want them growing up here. I think that the military would be good because it would get us out of here (we obviously would have to get married first, no prob) and when he gets out we can get a great loan for a house. My boyfriend has graduated from college and has a bachelors degree in autocad/computer drafting so from what I hear that would get him in a higher ranking position and that would pay more. I know that our housing would be paid for and our utilities and that we would get a food allowance. I wonder if his student loans would get paid for? Also I am hoping that he can not go into a war zone so I was thinking if he went into the air force and went to school for something through the air force that would keep him from war and he'd get paid and our housing would still get paid for. Sounds good to me! I wonder if he does the schooling where we would be stationed? Also I wonder how long the boot camp is and while he is in bootcamp will my rent be paid for? Can you tell me anything else about the Air Force? Like is there a chance we would get sent out of the country to another country oh like France, or sent to hmmm Hawaii? lol..TIA!!

Hello Maria, I think it stinks that we have to travel so far, but at least if you keep your receipts "Benefits" will give you travel orders in which you can be repaid for hotel, gas and maybe even airplane tickets, here is my normal email address if you'd like to keep in contact: [email protected]
I am very happy I have done this, I have lost 25lbs in 4weeks, I don't see it, but others have told me they do, I just hope I can lose as much as I want too, I have read good and not so good. I will say this that Tricare is one of the FASTEST to respond for approval I had mine with in a week. And thats good from what I have heard. I would really like to talk more about this with you email me okay.

Teresa, I know how you feel about the traveling. We are stationed at Eielson AFB, Alaska (that's near Fairbanks). Currently, they only do the surgery in Anchorage. Anchorage is a 6-7 hour drive or about an hour plane ride. The bad thing is if you have a morning appointment, you have to catch the early morning flight at 6am (oh yeah and it's about a 35 minute drive to the airport - makes for a long, tiring day). I'm hoping to become a loser soon. We just submitted to Tricare last Friday - hoping to hear something in the next few days. If approved, I'm looking at a mid-June surgery date.

Good luck tomorrow! I'm 4 weeks out and 24 lbs lighter because of Lap RYN! I would do it again tomorrow!

I wish you all the best on your surgery in 2 days....woohoo...the day is almost here! YOu will be a fellow 'LOSER' before you know it.
We are stationed at Charleston AFB, SC and I had my surgery 11mo ago. I went from 265 size 33/34 down to 154.5 size 8/10 so far and I am 5'3. My goal is 135 and I was just approved for a tummy tuck.hernia repair & scar revision soon. This has been the best decision...I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Take care,
Julie S.

Unfortunatly she had already had hers open before they changed their minds. But she is doing good anyway.

Hello fellow AF members, I am having Lap RNY done on 13 April down in Los Angeles, and everything has worked out wonderful, I am so looking forward to having this surgery, I was supposed to have it on 17 Nov 04 but my hubby received orders to VAFB, so I had to start all over. The base here doesn\\\'t do the any medical procedures everything is referred out to other town doctors. I have to drive 3 hours to my appointments but it well worth my time to become a healthier person. If you have any question about my journey to get here, insurance wise, surgeon choice, just ask. Good Luck to everyone in becoming LOSERS

Hey Tonya Nellis AFB is very nice, has the BEST and Largest BX, it only year old maybe a little longer. My husband and I just PCS from Nellis to Vandenberg AFB in California, I would much rather be back in Vegas, I love it there, my husband is Security Forces and it was really nice. People are very helpful and friendly. Don\\\'t know about housing we lived off base, good luck to you, if you have any questions don\\\'t hesitate to ask.

I too had hear this, my consult was Feb 14, 05 and I have been approved for Lap RNY, my surgery is April 13, 05 so they must have changed their minds, I had really wanted the DS but when I was told by my surgeron he could do the RNY Lap for me and still get the same results, I opted for the Lap surgery. So I hope that if your daughter wants GBS that she too will get the Lap. Good Luck!
