Don't forget to stop in and say "Hello" to the Jackalope city!  I live in Douglas...."Home of the Jackalope".  Hope your trip is wonderful!  We just went to Denver for a little weekend trip with our kids, and boy am I happy to be back in our wide open space!  You couldn't pay me enough to live in a big city like that!

Why, thank you, I just might do that, if the timing permits. I do have a busy schedule for when I am out there, but there is always time to say howdy. My place in west  of Casper, off HWY 20/26, but I come up I-25 from I-80, so it is not too far out of the way. A visit to Gillette for a bit sounds like fun. Sorry you are tired of the open spaces of Wyoming, but if your were from Detroit, where I grew up and still live near, it would seem like heaven there. I would take open, blue, clear skies above prairie over gray, smog filled skies above concrete and buildings any day. You can drive 200 miles straight here and never see anything but city. Of course it could be worse, in NYC you can't see sky at all unless you kink your neck trying to look straight up, just to try and catch a glimpse of a patch of it, between the concrete, steel and glass. I grew up a country boy, and my heart will always be rural, just where I live the rural went away.

Well stop in Gillette and say HOWDY! when you get close. I am glad you can't wait to see the wide open spaces, I am totally sick of them......LOL.

I'm not sure about the housing market in Rock Springs, but if it's like the rest of Wyoming, you'd be lucky to even find something to rent.  Interest rates are still pretty low, so if it were me, I'd try to buy something (if your hubby's company wants to keep you here for a while).  In Douglas and surrounding cities, it's pretty hard to find anything to rent, and those places that are for rent are not a place I'd even want to house my cats in (let alone my kids!).  There are some decent places to rent, but those are the rentals that you can't afford to rent.  Some of them charge as much in rent as you'd pay for a mortgage payment!

My husband and I work for another part of the energy world.  We mine coal here in the basin.  My hubby runs rubber tire and track dozers, and I run haulage trucks and other support equipment at our mine.

I hope your move goes smoothly.  Check in with us and let us know when you're settled.  Maybe us Wyomingites could get together sometime!

Thank you so much!  What great info to take a look at.

I make crafts and sell them......where would the closest Hobby Lobby or Michaels craft store be to Rock Springs?

Hugs,
Ash :)

Thanks for the input.  My husband works for Solar Turbines (subsidiary of the Caterpillar Company)  They are across the globe Oil & Gas company.  They build and maintain the turbines that pump the gas from offshore-inland etc.  We now live in east Texas.  They need 4 guys to cover the Utah district which my husband would be covering 5 states total.  They need us to live in Rock Springs.

My concern from looking on line, is finding housing?  Is it hard to find rental properties?  Would we be better off to buy a house?  The company will pay to relocate us, so that's a blessing.

We are pretty excited about the move!  We love Texas but, would love to experience other parts of the US too!

Ash :)
