WyoSue, what do you mean by stricture opened?  What kind of protein do you eat?

LaRinda,  A stricture is when the new opening they create closes down with scar tissue.  Eating is very difficult and even drinking was difficult before I finally got back up to Billings.  They do a scope down into your new pouch and use a balloon to stretch the opening that leaves the pouch.  For me anything I put in came back up and was very uncomfortable.  I am drinking protein that I get from GNC called Isopure in the powder form.  I do doctor it up with sugar free syrup, instant decaf coffee, banana or fresh or frozen fruit.  I am able to eat about any kind of protein as far as chicken, beef, pork, or fish.  Cottage cheese with tomatoes and cucumbers really goes down well.  I just try it and if it goes down that's good.  My biggest problem is eating slow and I'm really trying to work on that!   Also not drinking when you eatwhat a drag!  How much are you able to eat at one time?  Sue

WyoSue, I eat a few bites at one time.  I can eat the strangest things like trail mix and protein bars yet can not eat any meat, eggs, bread, most veggies or fruits.  When I eat something that my stomach does not like I start throwing up.  But never the food.  I throw up masssive amounts of "snot" for up to two hours and then it just quits.  I then spend the next few days not eating anything because my stomack and esoph.  is so sore.   thanks for educating me on the stricture opening.  my doctor does not want me to have protein shakes or drinks.  However, I have to throw them in once in awhile or I have no energy.  I also take my vitamins that do help.   LaRinda

Why no protein shakes or drinks?  I've never heard of that.  Protein is so important for weight loss, energy and healing.  Sue

Hi Sue and Larinda! I'm Brenda and from Powell, WY.  I just had Lap RNY on August 2nd.  I'm soooo excited to find people in Wyoming that have had the surgery!  There are several people in Powell that have had it, and their support is important.  But it's also great to meet and visit with people from around our beautiful state!  I had my surgery in Billings also, Sue!  Dr. Kathryn Hatch did my surgery with Dr. Bentzel assisting.

My surgery went very well and I felt GREAT the first week, even into the second week.  I'm not into the third week and having difficulties.  I did really well with the full liquid diet, it seemed.  But into the pureed foods, I've had some problems.  Strangely enough, not with the food, but with the protein drinks.  I can't seem to drink one without it nauseating me.  Any advice?   Way to gooo on your success!!  I hope that you both do very well with your complete recovery and continued weight loss!   Hey Sue, Greybull isn't that far from Powell...It would be fun to meet!  Let me know if you're interested ok?   Have a super day! Brenda

Hi Brenda, I'm so glad to here from someone that lives in Powell!!  Do you go to the support group in Powell?  I would love to meet you,  I have a daughter in Powell and she teaches school there. One of these days when I'm over there I'll give you a call if you want to give me your phone number.  What kind of protein do you drink and how do you prepare it.  I drink mostly Isopure and I doctor it up with sugar free syrup, instant decaf coffee, bananas and fruit.  I always blend mine and it seems to work.  Good luck with your recovery and good Luck with the protein.  I get Isopure at GNC in the mall in Billings.    Sue

I have gone to the support group here in Powell once.  It seems as though it's pretty much died out here :-(.  I'm hoping that as soon as I'm able and qualified (time-wise) that I can become certified to lead a support group and get it going again.  I think it's VERY important in the all-around success of our journies to keep support going.  If you have any suggestions I'd sure be open to hearing them for sure! I would love to get together with you and visit!  Please feel free to email me at [email protected] and we can exchange phone numbers, etc there ok?   I'm looking forward to meeting you! God bless you!  Brenda :-)
