I know that Dr Stickler in Charleston takes the BCBS and he is a wonderful man too. I have not got my surgery yet but he is great for answering questions and taking time to talk to you. He is with Metabolix. Good luck!

Just a quick question. Is there anyone who has been approved with the WV Medicaid? There has to be someone out there that knows about the procedure in getting approved. I want to make sure that I have all my t's crossed and i's dotted before I submit for approval. If there is anyone with advise I would love to hear from you. This is so important to me, I don't want to live this way. Could someone pleassssssssse help?? Thanks So Much for your time. Bobbi

You must be patient. I would expect 4-6 weeks to get everything taken care of so a date can be scheduled. I think that bariatric staff at WVU is terrific. They are thorough at what they do so you see few if any problems there. They want to know that you are physically capable of withstanding the surgery. The want to know that emotionally that you are ready for the surgery. They want to make sure that there is nothing physically wrong with you that would preclude the surgery. I get a sense from this board than not all surgeions are as thorough as Dr. McNatt and Dr. Golden, but they have your best interests as their foremost concern. So one day when you least expect, Mary Anne Yanosik will call you and the ball will be rolling. Curt

I went to my first seminar on October 18th In Morgantown. They said I have to wait for the doctor to look at my files to see if I am a "candidate"? I have all the health problems and my back, knees, hips all hurt every day. I am 37 years old, and been morbid obese all of my life! At 5'2" and weigh 380 lbs. Isn't that enough to make me a candidate? I have been trying since 1999 and been denied twice. I guess I just want this over with while the insurance is saying they'll pay for it! Anybody else feel this way?

Topic: The Last Supper
As a pre or post op are you familiar with the term the last supper? Did you feel the need to have one final large meal prior to surgery or maybe even a whole month worth of last suppers? Did you gather with family and friends and how did you feel about yourself after you binged? If this sounds like something you or someone you know participated in before surgery, please send me a short email telling me about your experience for an article in OH Magazine. Please send comments to [email protected].

Topic: I'm Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The surgery was done on Friday morning and it has been sort of anticlimatic since. I had a couple of issues in the hospital that were related to nursing care, but the surgical team could not have done a better job. I can clearly state that I have no real pain. Of course, I have a little fullness and tenderness in my abdomen but nothing like blinding pain. I used the morphine drip to let me sleep when I wanted to. I came home on Sunday and the ride was a little uncomfortable. I did feel the bumps on the road but that was tolerable. I have taken no pain medication since coming home except at bedtime. Trust me if I had a hint of pain I would have medicated myself. On Monday, I got up and fixed my coffee and my breakfast. I can move round the house with little trouble. The swelling and slight discomfort in my belly is going away. By Saturday at noon I was hungry. In fact, the gelatine, broth and sugar free popsicle was the best meal I have had in a long time. I am sleeping in my recliner because it is not yet comfortable to lay flat. If you are contemplating surgery a recliner is a must. I sleep the entire night through and am rested in the morning. I hope this report helps those that are facing the surgery. Curt

Jenny, I checked with Diane and she has submitted your file to the insurance company. It looked like you had everything so the approval should come through quickly. Dr. Stickler
