Topic: RE: Locals?
The Rosenthal House is right at the hospital and is for family and patients to stay for donations only. When you make your pre surgery appointment, they will ask you if you want a referral. On the day before surgery when you arrive, go to the Rosenthal House. If they do not have room for you, they will give you a voucher to stay at one of the motels near the hospital. We stayed at the Best Western for the night before my surgery. The discounted rate was $35 per night.
As far as restaurants are concerned, the hospital is surrounded by eating places of all different descriptions. Ruby also has a cafeteria that is not bad at all.
Good Luck!

Thank you. No, you are the first to reply. I am determined this will happen for me. As always, I am the optimist in the family.
Now my husband is saying he is tired of hearing about it and he will be glad once I've had this F&%$ING surgery! I told him how this hurt me, and his reply was, "Do you have to talk about it all of the time?" "It's taken over our lives!" My reply to him was, "Well, it is gonna change my life and I want to learn all I can now to make it happen!"
He is supportive to a cause, but he isn't one to follow through on alot of things. My daughter is adopted, but she too has my figure. She wants to get skinny too. She is just 7 and weighs 100 lbs. I told her that she can exercise with Mommy and that will help her get healthier.
Again, thanks alot. I am grateful to you for understanding how I feel.

I am looking for info on cost saving during my WLS journey. Hopefully, I have a near future date and want to plan my before and after surgery life.
Anyone near RT 9 WV/VA line? I live 2 miles from that and 8 miles east of Charles Town, WV. Looking for possible carpool to future appts, also any tips on cheap places to stay and eat in Morgantown? My doctor is Dr. Goldman of Ruby Hospital.

I cant believe no one has replied to this yet. Have you gotten any emails?
I cant say much about the actual surgery 'cause Im still waiting for approval for my surgery but most people I have talked to that have had the surgery have no regrets.
Just read the other posts. They speak for themselves.
I have the same problem with my husband. Were both a couple who love food. ( Or as we say.. a couple of fatties - in a nice way ) He came with me to the seminar and was sorta interested but when he saw the amount of 'work" involved, he declined.
He is obviously not ready.
I say, if youre not ready.. no amount of pushing will make you ready. your husband sounds like hes just not ready.
I understand your dilemma with wanting your husband healthy and fit but you have to take care you your needs now. Maybe when he sees how well you do, he will consider taking the steps he needs to do something.
Its like any other habit.. you have to be ready to change for it to take or its a waste of time.
As for your son.. I hope he remains healthy for the rest of his live.
At 14, he doesnt realize the pain we "Fat People" have gone thru. Hes too young to know that he too could one day be on the "fat People Message board".
And, hes a boy. My 17 yr old son doesnt say anything about me wanting this surgery. Hes not interested in if his mom is fat or not.
Im just mom - gimme the keys, please.
Now, my girls - 13 & 19 - .. they are interested. Especially my 13 yr old, who could easily follow in her mothers shoes.
If youre ready to do this.. do it for you. Take care of you. Your husband will let you know when hes ready when hes ready.

Topic: RE: Any Regrets????
Donna,
I have no regrets whatsoever. I am one of those people who has to have a consequence to my actions. If I eat something that has too much sugar in it, I throw up. I am one of those people who dump, but not everyone does. I have tried many diets in the past and some have worked for a while and others have not, but the weight has never stayed off. At this point I am almost 5 months out and I am down 72 pounds. This is a major milestone for me. I am 44 years old and soon to be a grandmother. I feel the best that I ever have in my life.
I personally like the gastric bypass. I disliked the idea of the lapband because of the fills that have to be done every so often. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.
Good Luck,
Jenny

Topic: RE: HS reunions
I'll bet you can't. Well, I was over 250 in high school, never got dates, or went to dances either. Now that I am over 300 I hide if I see former classmates in the grocery store. My next one will be 2006, but I will probably wait since I still don't have a surgery date yet
U go get'em girl!!!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss.
I have told others (when ask about the surgery) that it is just as emotional as it is physical. But I am learning to do other things like take a walk or find a project to replace those "comfort" foods when I feel in time of need.
My husband is already talking about the plastic surgery. I told him one step at a time...let's get the weight off then go from there. I had surgery Jan 11th and down 135 lb. with about 40 more to go.
My legs look like elephant legs...all the saggy skin, then there is the drooping/sagging tummy area, and my breasts look like tube socks. But looking at the whole picture and how great I feel...I can deal with the saggy skin. I will definitely look into plastic surgery....what and how much I have done will depend on the insurance company....how much they will pay.
Congratulations again ! And keep up the good work.
Janet
