Your participation is requested in a study designed to measure distress in a sample of people with morbid obesity who is involved in Internet support sites for weight loss surgery.
The study has four criteria:
1) ages 18-80 years
2) United States citizenship
3) reading at a 6th grade level
4) not currently an in-patient at a Mental Health Facility.
There is minimal risk for participants, and there is possible change in the way that professionals assess, treat, and provide aftercare to people who struggle with the issues of distress, weight loss surgery, and obesity. The study is confidential and factors that may identify participants will be removed. However, even the most respected researcher can not completely guarantee confidentiality.

Topic: RE: Urgent need
Hi Leigh, We have the same surgeon. Isn't he the best? My friend who is also a patient of Dr.Nease has medicaid and was approved. I know she didn't have diabetes, but she had a pretty high BMI. Is your BMI over 40? Are you still waiting for approval or have you already been turned down. Don't give up, Kim will do everything she can to get you approved. If there is anything I can do to help you out, just let me know. Good Luck!

Hi Leigh,
I was approved and had surgery at UVA last Jan. 05 with Dr. Bruce Schrimer. I do not have Diabetes and I never did have diabete, but I did have other co mobilities that made me eligible for getting approved for surgery. I have lost over 200 lb and am doing great.
Please email me if I can be of any help to you.
God Bless,
Marsha in WV
Topic: RE: NEEDING TO KNOW WHEN THE NEXT METING IN BECKLEY IS.
The next meeting is Monday, Jan. 23rd at 7:00 PM at Raleigh General Hospital. Email me if you have any questions. Good luck!
Beckley WLSSG Calendar of Events
January 2006 Meeting Agenda
This month: Discussion about weight-loss surgery, food, and plastic surgery, and anything important to you!
We will meet in our regular meeting room in the new Education Center (this is the annex building beside the hospital on the side near Kroger). The entrance is at the top of the large wheelchair ramp. We will always meet here unless Raleigh General Hospital double-books the room, in which case they will put up a sign indicating a room in the hospital for us to use.
A Yahoo Group just for the Beckley WLS Support Group is now online! Now you can talk to a fellow support group member anytime! Help get our online group going by posting a message today! http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/beckleywlssg/ (If you don't already have a Yahoo ID, getting one is easy and FREE!)
We will now have a clothing exchange at each meeting! You are welcome to bring any clothes that no longer fit you and take home some that do. As you lose out of them, bring them back and exchange them for others! You do not have to bring clothing to take clothing, and bringing clothing is not required.
Restaurant cards for Dr. Shin and Dr. Stickler's patients will be available for anyone who needs one. There will be a door-prize drawing for anyone attending who has had weight-loss surgery. Don't forget to bring a recipe (or two...or three) for our website (or you can email them to us), and a "before" picture (if you have one).
