I have most of those, I can't really see a dr. putting us threw all of these tests and not thinking it will work. Today i see the nutritionest and then i am done. that is if my primary dr. had sent in his report. lol I will check when i at my surgeons office today. if not i will call primary tomorrow and tell him to hurry up. he keeps asking when i am haveing surgery and if i have a date yet. well duh. not if he don't get his part sent in. Good luck with everything.

Hi I had the Roux-EN-Y GBP on march 31 this year, I went to a wonderful surgeon in Charleston, Dr. Daniel Stickler. He is excellent. And his staff is excellent also. He only performs the bypass. I work with a couple of people that have had the Lap Band, and they have regained their weight lost back plus more. I am a RN and I have lost 80 lbs since surgery. I reviewed all the bariatric options and the bypass seemed like the one that was going to give me the long term results I wanted, but you do have to make life chaning eating ha*****anges. You have to remember with the bypass surgery they are changing your digestive tract and it cannot be reconnected, with the band it can be removed if needed.

Do you have to comply w/ all 7 of their requirements to be approved ? I have started the process of trying to get RNY surgery a few months ago and right now all I have left to do is my psych eval. and it can be submited. If I have to comply w/ all 7 of these then I am looking at a denial. Paula

Sabrina, WLS is always a tough decision and involves some pretty major lifestyle changes. The good news is that most BC/BS plans cover the surgery but they do vary on their dietary requirements. Most require a 6 month physician supervised plan but some have no dietary requirement at all - just check with your particular carrier or you can call our office and ask Diane about your plan, she can usually tell you what is required. Once you make the decision to have the surgery, take your time to learn about the different types of surgery - the good and the bad. Different surgeons have different preferences and for different reasons. Do your research and go in with plenty of questions. The consultations are pretty informative and do not obligate you to anything. Also find a support group meeting and talk to the patients that have had surgery. Hope this all helps. Good Luck, Dr. Stickler

Sabrina- Probably the place to start is finding out if your insurance will cover WLS, then decide on what type of wls you want, then find the best qualified surgeon you can.
