There is a Mt State weight-loss support group at CAMC Women's and Children's hospital in Charleston.

What kind of protein supplement do you like? Where do you get it? Do you suggest trying some out before surgery? Thanks Michelle

I know what you mean about our WV board. I check it everyday but seldom see anything new. I'm pre-op. I like to read things from neighbors who have had surgery. We will have to keep trying to drum up interest. Michelle

Let's give this a try! Tell us what you ate today... This will help folks who are just a few weeks out start to think about meals when they are a bit farther along as well as possibly helping others who are able to eat most things come up with new meal ideas! Today wasn't necessarily the greatest day for me... Breakfast--egg beaters with shredded cheese and 2 sausage balls Lunch--turkey pepperoni, rice/beans/cheese snack--peanuts Dinner--yummy beef stew snack--no sugar added ice cream I also got in 64 oz of liquids. And my calories for the day are about 1000 with less than 50 carbs and my protein is like 65 grams. I've been aiming for 65 to 80 grams of protein per day per Jeremy at Medabolix's recommendation.

Topic: Do you plan your meals OR just go with the flow??
I'm curious if most folks plan their meals for the day in advance (as in at least by supper time the night before you know what you're having for your meals the next day)??? OR, do you just keep an assortment of stuff on hand and pull out whatever appeals to you at the time?? Now I am not saying that it doesn't count as planning in advance when you change your mind and don't do it after all! But, before you go to bed tonight, do you know what you're doing for breakfast, lunch and dinner tomorrow?? Or, will your breakfast tomorrow depend on how much time you have, how hungry you are, and what's left in the fridge???? We've started really thoroughly planning out a week's worth of dinners and doing detailed shopping lists for those meals so that we don't end up needing one last thing that we don't have and can't drive 25 miles (to the closest grocery store) to get! It has saved me money on both groceries and gas as well as resulted in better dinners for the last 3 weeks running. BUT, for my breakfast and lunch on school days when it is just me at home, I have to admit that I don't plan in advance, but rather go to the kitchen, check out the leftovers and such and decide from there what I'll have. I don't normally do any between meal snacking unless I had a really low protein item for breakfast and then I'll get a bit of protein in somewhere between breakfast and lunch, even if it is some nuts or a dish of beans... The fiber in the beans is a plus as well! SO, are you a planner OR do you just grab something when the time comes to eat???

I hear other folks mentioning how active their state boards are.... What will it take to get the WV board moving and posting??? I'd love to see us more interactive! How about a post each day where we all share what we're eating? I know that they do this on the PA board. And, for folks who struggle to find new stuff to eat, it would be great as it would show them what other folks are eating! Where do you all buy your protein supplements? What are your favorite places for finding recipes and such?? Let's get some conversations started!

Hopefully, this war will end soon and he will come home to his family. Be strong for him. He needs you to be there for his wife and granddaughter. I will pray for Wes as well as all the other military families.

Hello all I am asking for everyone to keep my stepson in your prayers for the next 7-8 months. He is a US Marine and he called this morning to let my husband and I know that his deployment is being moved up a week. He is leaving for Iraq between Jan 17-19. I have been very upset and worried over him that it is affecting me in a horrible way. I cannot concentrate on anything. I cannot help but worry for his safety. I am trying to be strong for my husband but I am a weakling. He is also leaving a wife who is due for their first child Feb 22. They are going to have a girl. Zoe will be 7 months old by the time Wes returns home. I know that I am not the only parent (or stepparent) to have a child going off to war,but please say a small prayer for Wes. Thank you all in advance and may God Bless you all. Thank you again Kathy
