Topic: NEW TO THE MESSAGE BOARD!!!!!
Hi everyone, I am new here. I attended my first informational meeting tonight for Gastric Bypass Surgery. I have been to other informationals before but this time I am going to follow through. I am a 30 year old wife and mom of 2 year old twins. I am desperate for help to get rid of my diabeties and high cholestoral to be healthy and be able to play with my kids for more than a few minutes at a time without being tired and out of breath. I drove almost 2 hours for an informational meeting tonight for Kings Daughters Medical Center. It was worth it. It was the best one I have been to and trust me I have been to a few but this time I am not going to be a chicken. My brother and sister n law both had this surgery and over the past 3 yrs I have watched them closely. Niether one of them have followed the post op precedures. My sister n law has gained back alot of weight and my brother does not take any of his vitamins and has low blood sugar now among some other problems. I am determined to better my life with this. I have to go see the nutritionist for six months due to my insurance before I can have the surgery, and so the countdown begins. I am hoping to get alot of support here and help to not chicken out. thanks for reading and hope to hear from somebody. Shawnita
Topic: NEW GRANDDAUGHTER HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!
Hello all
I am just so happy. My first granddaughter has arrived. She was born today at 2:45 p.m. Weighed in at 6 lbs 3 ozs. Is 19 3/4 in long. Her name is Zoie Adara. Her proud parents are Lcpl Weslee and Sarah Snider. My stepson is currently in Iraq with the USMC. Even though Zoie is my stepgranddaughter I love her the same as my two grandsons. We cannot wait to see our little Valentine baby. She was born at St Rita Medical Center in Lima OH where they was expecting 20 inches of snow. That is why my husband and I could not be there. Her mother was with her though and that makes us happy.. Thought I would tell all of you the good news.

LEA, SORRY YOU DIDN'T GET ANY RESPONSES. i KNOW YOU WERE TRYING TO GET ANOTHER SUPPORT GROUP STARTED. I AM STILL PRE-OP AND WORRY BECAUSE I WON'T HAVE ANY SUPPORT BESIDES OH AFTER SURGERY. THERE AREN'T ANY SUPPORT GROUPS NEAR ME. MAYBE IT'S THAT WV IS SO RURAL. I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO GET THINGS MOVING HERE. I THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE CHECK THE BOARD HERE DAILY BUT EVERYONE IS HESITANT ABOUT POSTING. COME ON MOUNTAINEERS WE'RE BETTER THAN THAT.

Topic: RE: Hi I'm new here.
Hi Ben!
I'm sorry to say that I don't know of any insurance that covers the lapband. (If you hear of one, please email me about it.) That is what I was considering before I researched all the procedures and chose the gastric bypass. However, I know that Dr. Robert Shin in Charleston performs the lapband surgery. If you can get any financial assistance, his office should be able to help you. Also, I'd like to invite you to our monthly support group meetings in Beckley. We are the only support group south of Charleston. We have several people who attend from Princeton, Lewisburg, and even VA. The Beckley WLS Support Group meeting is actually today, February 12, from 7:00-9:00pm at Raleigh General Hospital on Harper Road, Beckley. Our meeting location is in the Education Center (annex building on the Kroger side of RGH). I wish I had seen your post earlier so I could have invited you earlier, but I do post a message here about the meeting each month. You and anyone you want to bring are welcome. If you are interested and you would like to receive a monthly email-reminder for the Beckley WLS Support Group Meetings, please email me at [email protected] and I'll add you to the list.
Would love to meet you!
Beth

Hi Katrina!
Congratulations on your surgery! I'd like to invite you to our monthly support group meetings in Beckley. We had a "protein party" in November and we will have another either in March or April. I'll be bringing some protein samples tonight, though, and you are welcome to try them! The Beckley WLS Support Group meeting will be held today, February 12, from 7:00-9:00pm at Raleigh General Hospital on Harper Road, Beckley. Our meeting location is in the Education Center (annex building on the Kroger side of RGH).

Topic: RE: cost of lapband
Hi Sherry
I am Kathy from Mullens and I know where union is. What my husband and
i have found on the internet about the cost of lapband. I found a place in Ohio
that their listed cash price was 19;900.00 which I thought was a complete
rip off.{just my opinion}. We see alot of post of people going to Dr Aceves
in Mexicali Mexico. His price is 9800.00 i think. I am sceduled for bypass in
Bogota, Colombia 3/1/07 if not for that i would probsbly go to Dr Aceves for
that prcedure, they are our second choice and maybe our first if we don't
hear something soon from bogota.
The patient coordinator for Dr Aceves is Rubin Miranda 888-344-3916

Topic: RE: Please help WV Gator Bowl Sweatshirt Needed!
I don't know where you are located, but I swear I saw navy ones and gold ones at a kiosk in the middle of the Charleston Towne Center Mall last weekend. We are an hour from there or I'd offer to go look for you. We were down there for eye doctor visit and having new glasses made for DH.

Topic: Why won't WV folks read their OH messages???
I emailed about 40 folks who are members of this forum and listed as being either in my county or one of the surrounding counties about the possibility of a local support group in my area and this was like 6 weeks ago. And I have not gotten even ONE response to all those emails! I did it through the OH system--you know, so it says at the top of the screen that you have an unread message and you can click it to go read the new message... Not one single person read the message than then took the time to even tell me to buzz off!
What does it take to get folks to respond these days? LOL
Hugs,
Lea
Topic: RE: 6 month check up
Congrats on the loss--136 pounds is AWESOME!! I'm at 120 lost myself but am also happy to say that I've lost 70+ whole body inches as well! Now if I could just get the pants sizes to drop more quickly! LOL
You are doing a great job! Got to work on that protein and vitamin thing though! Have you had much hair loss? I've been lucky not to lose any more than I already did due to the hypothyroidism.... I had my 6 mo labs drawn last week and hope to get the results on all of that by the end of this week. But, I don't see my surgeon for my 6 mos appointment till Mid March (a couple of weeks late for me!).
Keep up the good work and keep letting us know how you're doing!
Hugs,
Lea
