Hi Everyone!   Here is some important information for us!  It looks like Raleigh General has finished their new building and may be moving our meeting to the new classroom this month.  Their plan is to prepare it this weekend.  I was only just informed, so I have not been to the new building yet to get specific directions.  In any event, if they are able to move and we are not in our regular meeting spot, we are definitely in the new building to the rear of the hospital.  I will be there early and will put up as many signs as possible to help everyone find our new meeting room.  This will be a permanent change of meeting place.  The classroom annex we have been using all this time will eventually be removed from the property, so it may be gone on Monday.  If I know on Monday for certain about the change, I will send out another email that morning.  Again, I will try to put up as many signs as I can to help you find the new classroom, so watch for them.  Please be patient with the change.  RGH has been generous in allowing us to use their facilities and they have told me that the new classrooms are better than ever!   ----------------------   The Beckley WLS Support Group meeting will be held on MONDAY, August 13, from 7:00-9:00pm at Raleigh General Hospital on Harper Road, Beckley. Don't forget, our meeting location may change this month!   Guests are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend!    This month:  Regular discussion about weight-loss surgery, food, plastic surgery, and anything important to you!     You can view our monthly calendar by visiting our support group website at http://www.geocities.com/beckleywlssg/  The 2007 meeting dates are also listed below.   Looking forward to seeing you Monday!   Beth ------------------------------ 2007 Beckley WLS Support Group meeting dates (all Monday meetings):   August 13, 2007 September 17, 2007 October 15, 2007 November 19, 2007  (Dr. Shin attending) December 17, 2007   (If Raleigh County Schools are cancelled due to weather the day of our meeting or the following day, the meeting is cancelled also.) ------------------------------ If you would like to receive an email-reminder for the Beckley WLS Support Group Meeting, please email us at [email protected]

Topic: I'm new!
Hi! My name is Nancy and I am 24 years old. I've battled my weight my entire life. I've had three kids in the past five years and now my weight is higher than it has ever been. I am currently floating somewhere between 300 and 310. I'm 5'4 so the weight really takes its toll on my body. I have decided after undergoing a lot of medical tests to determine if my weight was caused by anything medical, that weight loss surgery is my best option. My problem? I haven't a clue which one! So, I'm wondering how some of you guys made your decisions on what surgery was best for you. I think I have it narrowed down to the lap band or gastric bypass. I'm looking really forward to getting to know you guys and I'm hoping to find and give support to other people!

Hey Joy!  I'm heading out today for the beach and won't be bac****il the 20th.  But I will think of you on the 16th.  We're supposed to have wi-fi access where we are going so hopefully I'll be able to come here and check on you!  I've heard nothing but good things about Dr. Shin - even though I haven't been to him myself.

Hello and Welcome, It is true this board is really quiet. I have a friend who had the same surgeon. She loves him. I really love mine too. I noticed you on the RNY board too. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Good Luck. Michelle

Hi Joy,     Yes, it is a small world!  I wish you the best of luck with those 11 pounds.  You'll have to let me know how it goes.  I think the 15 you've lost already is great!  Keep up the good work! Donna

Hi Barb,     With the gastric bypass they re-route your intestines to your new pouch.  With the vertical sleeve there is no re-routing and no new pouch.  They completely remove 90 % of your stomach.  Your stomach is about as wide as your index finger, making it a straight "sleeve".  I had a colostomy bag.  Dr. Stickler was going to reverse it when he did my stomach surgery.  He said re-routing the intestines and reversing the colostomy was to much, therefore the vertical sleeve was best for me.  I was the first one in WV to have this kind of surgery.       Good luck with your journey.  Would love to hear from you again! Hi Donna, I am glad to find a fellow member near me also!   I have lost 15 pounds so far without surgery.  I have to lose 10% of my weight before the seminar this coming Thursday.  Still have 11 more to go.  It is difficult at times. You live in Boone County?    Small world, I was born in (Madison) many moons ago.  JOY

Topic: RE: HI New here !!!

I can't help you out with the Martinsburg area.. but I can welcome you to the boards!   I'm in Charleston - but years and years and years ago I lived in Martinsburg for a year or two.  My father was transferred there and I truly enjoyed the quaint town atmosphere.  I'm sure it's changed a lot since then (the mid 60's) with it being a bedroom community now of DC.

 Hope to see you around!

Hi Donna!

Im fascinated... what is a vertical sleeve?  I've seen it mentioned recently and wondered.  I'm getting ready to restart my journey once I get back from vacation in Mid-August.... so hopefully I'll be seeing some of you here.
