Yes... read everything you can get your hands on.  If you have insurance - check your coverage.  I have AETNA and they will only pay for RNY so that choice was easy to make.  There are several ladies in my office who have had it and did really great.  I hope to be added to those numbers!  I'm not very well versed in lap-band, but I know someone can give more input.

 

 

Hi Nancy, I would tell you to follow your surgeons advice. I thought of havng the lap band, but after talking with my surgeon I chose RNY. I have no regrets.  My highest weight was 375, at consult 364, day of surgery 324, this morning 186. I never would have thought it was possible in eight months. I know some say lap band has less risk, but either way they are putting you to sleep and you have all the risk that goes with a major surgery.  Do your research and chooose what is right for you. pan head

Hi Everyone! Our meeting room is definitely moving this month!  Raleigh General is in the process of tearing down our old meeting place, so this will be a permanent change of meeting place. Directions to the new meeting room:  It is a new building behind our old one.  If you go past our current building towards the back of the hospital, you will run right into it.  You will see a wheelchair ramp and some steps.  There are two glass doors.  It will be fairly obvious once you are there.  There is parking in front of the building and to the rear, so you won't have to park in the main parking lot. There will be signs for our new meeting room:  I am going to get there early and put up some bright pink signs that lead to our new meeting place.  Look for them on the ramp and stair railings, doors, etc.  I really look forward to seeing you all tonight! I am new but the decision I made to have the roux-en-y was pretty simple. For myself, I thought the lap band would be easy to cheat and I obviously have little self control to get the way i was in the first place so I went for the full gastric bypass and things have worked out pretty good so far. I am down from the 517 i started at to under 400lbs so It does work. Good luck with your decision as i know it can be a tough one but once ou do make up your mind go for it all the way.
