Hey everyone, I have a 10, 7 and 1 year old.  My biggest problem has been finding family friendly recipes and snack ideas.  I am in the process of putting together a cookbook for other WLS patients and was looking for some new ideas.  Let me know if you have a recipe or snack idea.  Thanks!!!!  Monica   [email protected]

Topic: New and DESPERATE for Answers
Hi..I am new to the forum..but I have been coming here for years reading others stories and journeys..I just never posted..I have been trying since Feb.2006 to get the Gastric Bypass Surgery..I went to the seminar ,had my physc evaluation..Got my 6 mth Dr supervised diet all finished.the PROBLEM is that I have WV Medicaid.  WV has a list a MILE long that they say You have to have before they will cover the surgery..way more than the stae of Virginia for the same surgery.and the same Medicaid. Has anyone here on the WV state forum ever had WV medicaid cover their surgery WITHOUT them having diabeties or being in a wheel chair or having to use a walker? I have seen on the message boards where a few have had it covered and some did NOT have diabeties. I have numerous other health conditions that my weight affects how I live EVERYDAY.. Multiple Sclerosis"have been diagnosed" Very Bad back..Several Herniated discs Arthritis in my spine IBD Incontience Fibromyalgia/CFS GERD..VERY BAD Hietal Hernia Carpel Tunnel Syndrome But NO diabetes and Im not in a wheel chair..This just doesnt seem right..Shouldnt diabetes be prevented if possibe? Why do we have to get it first??? My PCP..is 100% in favor of this surgery for me If anyone can help me or has any suggestions on how to get WV Medicaid to cover the Gastric Bypass for me PLEASE let me know..I only have my insurance for 6 mths ..I had to meet over a $5,000 dollar spin down in order to get it for that long.and that is unpaid medical bills. I am VERY DESPERATE for this surgery..I have a 10 mth old grandbaby that I have been taking care of since she was born..Its been really hard. and a 12 yr old son and they NEED me to be here for them..I also have a Mother who has Cancer and is very sick right now and needs me to be able to help care for her needs too..I feel so HOPELESS sometimes..But I have faith in GOD and he will give me the strength I need... Sorry for such a long post..  if anyone has any answers or suggestions..PLEASE help me.find a way to get this surgery.. Thank You for listening..and Thanks to anyone that answers in advance..Tammie

I  was so glad to hear from you!   The seminar was great!  I mailed my information package this morning.  From what I understand, the hospital sorts the mail and then sends it on to the WLC.  Hopefully they will get it by next Monday.  We shall see.  How long did it take for you to get your first appointment?  How long did it take to get your approval?  So many questions. LOL.   JOY

Topic: SEMINAR

I WENT THE THE WLS SEMINAR HELD AT THE CAMC WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL THIS EVENING.  I REALLY ENJOYED THE DISCUSSION DR. SHINN GAVE ON THE DESCRIPTIONS AND TYPES OF SURGERIES AND WAS HONEST ABOUT THE PRO'S AND CON'S OF EACH ONE.  I AM FORTUNATE ON HAVING MY WEST VIRGINIA WLS FRIENDS TO TEACH ME ABOUT THE GASTRIC BYPASS THEREFORE, I UNDERSTOOD WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT.  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEACHING ME.  TOMORROW I WILL CALL HIS OFFICE FOR MY FIRST VISIT WITH HIM THERE.  I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT WAS SAID, OKAY?      I went on a liquid diet for 4 weeks prior to surgery. It is called optifast. It's basically soups and shakes and one snack a day. It was tough having the willpower to stay on it but I somehow managed. except for about a week before surgery. I ate 3 squares of what I wanted. Not fast food but some restuarants i wanted to fully enjoy one last time before the big day and i didn't put too much back on. haha.    I think being active is the main thing. After surgery until i got sick a couple weeks back I was out at the gym and had the drive and a goal that I knew was now attainable due to the surgery. I am going to get started back to my regular gym schedule after the weekend so hopefully i can drop another hundred pounds.

Hi Dan!

Great to see you are having such success!  I can't wait for the day I can jump in and start logging my losses!

The weight that you lost before surgery... how did you do that?  I'm sure the Dr is going to want me to lose and you were successful.  Of course... it IS easier for you guys than we gals!
