Well, maybe I should clarify a little bit. LOL. I was just wondering if maybe cleaning up the litter box or something could cause wound infection....or something kinda like a pregnant woman is not supposed to clean the litter pan because of certain parasites or something along those lines...

Ahhhhhhhhhh OK! Now I understand! I was thinking... Holy Cheezits! I have 3 dogs! I remember when I was pregnant... (years and years ago!) that there was a warning about something about cat 'cookies' being off limits due to something you could pick up and it affecting fetal development. For me.. it was a good excuse for someone else to have to clean the litter box. I haven't read or heard anything about it with WLS. I would imagine that it's the same as any regular surgery in that good hygiene is what is important for incisions. I wouldn't sweat it - just make sure you don't share facilities with the kitties and I'd think you'd be OK.

Barb, Didn't see the broadcast... I have trouble watching surgery... it tends to make me want to faint... go figure being a post operative nurse... LOL... the bacteria in cat pooey is cytomegalo virus... and it can cause major issues with the fetus. It also reaks havoc on those that are immuno comprimised...(HIV+) the results can lead to eye infections, blindness and a full host of complications. As far as you and the cat pooey... post op... the only thing you need to watch is the bending and stooping to clean the box. Even with lap, you can develop a hernia or rupture of your lap sites. Soooooo.... for a bit... get the hubby or the kids to do it for you... if you don't have those available to you... hire a neighbor kid (or neighbor husband for that matter) or you can hire a pet waste removal company that will come in and do just that... the company is very inexpensive and well worth the investment... shouldn't take no more than a week to 10 days to get back to something close to normal. Hope this helps Wanda

I didn'****ch the show, go figure I've lost enough spare parts to surgery not to have an interest. LOL. But as far as the kitty litter problem, get someone else to do the so-called dirty duty, I should know I have at least 25 cats and Kittens living with me at any one time as I am a legal small shelter for cats. Believe me, you will not want to bend over any more then you have to in the first 2 weeks of your recovery and you are not allowed to lift anything over five pounds, at least that was my Dr.'s restrictions. So get someone else to do it, or post the kitties with Mom for a week or 2. Also kitties have a tendency to pounce (jump) on a lap, as your lap will be in a vertical position for at least the first 3 days that is a big OUCH factor. Hope this helps and good luck!
