Question about Drs Shin/Stickler
I read on the website for Medabolix that they require you to visit their seminar before your initial consultation. Is that just for bypass, or does it include the LapBand also? I'm ready to schedule and not sure if I need to wait for the next "seminar". Also, does anyone know of any other doctors performing the Lap Band near or closer to Martinsburg? Thanks for any help you can offer
Hi Tiffany, they offer the seminar on-line from their website. Once you're finished with it (I think it's lasts like 30-45 minutes -- not sure tho) You print off a quiz and answer the questions.
As far as if you have to do this for lap band, I'm not sure. I do know that they require it for RNY.
take care,

Thanks for the reply. I was under the assumption it was more a face-to-face seminar. Beings that I live 5 hours from Charleston and work full time 3rd shift, traveling there real often isn't really an option! I have found a hospital (Monongalia General) in Morgantown, WV and am hoping that they perform the LapBand there. I can't seem to call at the right time to get a real person, tho, lol.
Anyways, thanks for the response
Thanks for the reply, I was assuming they probably didn't do the LapBand... unfortunately I'm not sure if I would qualify for the gastric bypass - not to mention only half would be covered by my insurance. If I may ask, what are the "requirements" of being considered for the gastric bypass? I'm 21yrs, 315lbs, 5'11''. Osteoarthritis in both knees, asthma (although not severe), all kinds of back problems and so forth... I was considering the LapBand for a few reasons over the gastric bypass. Insurance/cost and the LapBand seems to have less possible side effects and I do like that it's completely reversible. Does anyone know of a Dr. in this area (Maryland, So. PA, DC, Northern VA would be good also) that performs the LapBand?
Thanks for any help
