Hi, My name is Susan and I am thinking about having the surgery soon. I have been thinking about this for a very long time and I can hardly wait until I have it done. I am so tired of people looking at me and thinking that just because I am a very large person that I must eat alot and the truth is that I do not. If anyone can help me, byt telling me how their surgery went then I would be very thankful.

Hi Susan! I'm new here as well. I'm just getting started with the process and have the initial seminar scheduled tomorrow morning. I can't believe how fast that happened. I had gone to my PCP on Monday for an asthma flare-up and talked to her about WLS. She agreed to refer me to the surgeon I wanted and now the ball is rolling. Good luck! We can touch base with each other! --Barb

Are you going to the seminar in Charleston? I am very happy for you and I will be glad to help ya any way I can. I had surgery on 09/11/2003 and i went home the next morning I have lost 120 pounds and my doctor says I have a good 6 months of weight loss left, I feel great! It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I work in Bluefield as a nurse and now I can do my shift without feeling like Im dying. The main thing is DO NOT let people discourage you. Thank you everyone for the encouragement . It means alot to me. I am to go to the semiar March 26 and I am looking forward to it. I work with the Board of Edu. as a teacher aide and there is some days that it takes everything I have to make it allday and I am looking forward to the time that I have energy enough when I get home to play with my little dogs and clean house. Teresa, in Princeton, you are not to far from me, I live right outside of Bradshaw. I go to Princeton sometimes to see a friend who lives there and my daughter is getting ready to attend college at Athens this summer so I will be going by your way alot for the next few years. I am so glad that you are lossing as much as you are, I hope that I am as good as you. Some of the questions that I have is :right after surgery is it hard to eat again, when you go out to eat is there special foods that I will need to order, and how soon long does that pain of the surgery last. My family does not want me to have this surgery because they have heard all the bad things about it, so they are scared that I will die or I will have to live on alot of pills the rest of my life just to survive. I have been trying to assure them that everything will be alright and I have been talking to a new friend at work who had it done, I have asked her some questions and told them what she has to say but they think that is just 1 person so they will not think that everyones story can not be as good as hers. Well I have to go time to go to work it is almost 5 a.m Back to school Susan

Hi everyone, I go to Charleston March 26 , I have to be there at 12:00 and I am soooooo excited. I hope that I can get to have my surgery very very soon. I have been wanting to do this for a very long time but my family was so set against it but finally I just had to make my mind up and tell them that this was some thing that I had to do for myself and I needed to do it for me and I hoped that they would understand but no matter what they throught I still needed to do it. I told them that I would be a better person after the surgery. I would be a different but new person, I would have energy like I use to and be able to do the things that I use to do. I have spoken to several people that I have worked with that has had it done and they all have been very open with me. I think this is some thing that I need to do for me. I hope to see some of you there Friday. My name is Susan and I will be with my slim hushband.

I went the 26th of March to the first semiar and I loved it. The staff in Charleston was so nice and they answered any question that was asked of them. I go April the 7th for my first appointment, I can hardly wait to have the surgery. My doctor has already given me my diet updates so I am hoping that this will speed up the process of Insurance approveable. I look forward to working with Dr. Shin.
