Charleston Hospital....
When I met with my surgeon (Dr. Rossi) he said that when everything was approved, I'd be having my lap-band at CAMC - Memorial. The last meeting with my PCP I mentioned this to him and he said that he would want me to go to CAMC - M and not Women's and Children's. He said that if there were complications that W & C might not be equipted to handle it. Finally, he added that he believes that he believes that all bariatric surgical procedures will eventually be moved to Memorial.
What do others think?
I know that W & C has a great facility...But what about ICU if there's an emergency?
I'd like to hear opinions.

My understanding is that eventually all barriatric will be moved to Memorial. I've known of several patients who were originally to have their surgery at Womens and Childrens but due to results of the pre-op tests, they were switched to Memorial. I believe someone on this forum recently had surgery at Memorial and said they were then put in an ambulance and moved to Womens and Childrens. I don't remember why.
Yes that would be me !!
I was supposed to have surgery at W and C Hospital and did all my pre testing there and at the last minute my date was changed a week ahead and it was at Memorial. So I had it on a Wed.and they ambulance me to w and c on that Friday morning and I came home that Saturday they wanted me to go there that Friday but they did not have a bed .Now i don't know about anybody else but I had a bad experience a Memorial They did not give me my normal meds that my Dr, ordered and they were trying to make me drink out of a straw and eat things I know that I could not have .Don't get me wrong the nurse were nice but they just acted like they did not have a clue about WLS.But when i got to the W and C ,they were absolutely wonderful there rooms are big and private and it was quite and my husband had a big nice chair to sleep in .At Memorial I had to share a room and i had to stay an extra day because I could not P on my on .(How can you concentrate when you got the Brady Bunch next door)Anyways if it were me I truly would go for Wand C they know exactly what they are doing .Oh the reason my Dr. wanted me at W and C was because he said that was boot camp and they would get me ready to go home .and yes I was told that memorial was eventually going to have a bariactric unit also and the girl that was in the next room from me she also was ambulance to W and C
I hope all goes well for you

I just had surgery at W&C on the 23rd and wasn't put on the bariactric floor since that was a Friday and the floor closes for the weekend. The nurses on the 3rd floor let me know they were kinda clueless which was sad since I knew there was at least one other patient my Dr had on that floor. We did get things figured out when I got a nurse who finally worked on the bariatric floor normally. The nurses were nice on 3 but they made it clear it was more of an over flow floor. I could see it being moved to Memorial and taking the trained nurses with them. It would of been nice to know what was going on, you know the oops no one told you type things. Good Luck I'm sure all will be well
