NEW TO THE MESSAGE BOARD!!!!!
Hi everyone, I am new here. I attended my first informational meeting tonight for Gastric Bypass Surgery. I have been to other informationals before but this time I am going to follow through. I am a 30 year old wife and mom of 2 year old twins. I am desperate for help to get rid of my diabeties and high cholestoral to be healthy and be able to play with my kids for more than a few minutes at a time without being tired and out of breath. I drove almost 2 hours for an informational meeting tonight for Kings Daughters Medical Center. It was worth it. It was the best one I have been to and trust me I have been to a few but this time I am not going to be a chicken. My brother and sister n law both had this surgery and over the past 3 yrs I have watched them closely. Niether one of them have followed the post op precedures. My sister n law has gained back alot of weight and my brother does not take any of his vitamins and has low blood sugar now among some other problems. I am determined to better my life with this. I have to go see the nutritionist for six months due to my insurance before I can have the surgery, and so the countdown begins. I am hoping to get alot of support here and help to not chicken out. thanks for reading and hope to hear from somebody. Shawnita
Hi Shawnita, Welcome to the WVa board, you will find that this board is not very active. I think there are alot of people that check in here, as I do, but do not post. There are a few that keep trying to get things going but nothing seems to happen.
I had my Lap-RNY at Kings Daughters on 12-14-06. I have nothing but good things to say about the Hospital and their Weight Loss program. I have Dr. Wheeler and am very happy with him and my whole experience there. I had to do the six month thing for insurance as well. Angie is my Dietitian, she is great, all the staff is very helpfull. Tonia, Rayette, Beth will all do everything they can to make your surgery a success.
I checked out Cabell-Huntington and St Mary's but I was more impressed with KDMC. They will give you the tools to make the surgery work for you and the after care is there as well. Yes, I am sold on KDMC, no I do not work for them. I have never been to any other hospital that treats people as well as they do. When I had testing done there they would go out of there way to help me, to the point of walking me where I needed go next if I didn't know where it was. I have never been treated as well at any hosp. in Huntington.
Yesterday was 9 weeks and I have lost 57 pounds since surgery and about 90 to 95 range since I started in April of last year. To say I feel better is such an understatement.
pan head
Hey pan head that is great. I also checked out st. marys and cabell huntington because I live about 15 min. from each in barboursville but I was also more impressed with kdmc. My grandma has been going there and they have impressed my whole family to the point that everyone is ready to switch. The informational that I went to with kdmc was in paintsville. It was more informative than any other that I have ever been to.Thanks for replying and good luck... Shawnitarider
Hello and welcome to the WV board!
As was already said, this board is a bit sluggish, but I am one of the ones who has tried recently to get folks to post and there just don't seem to be many folks who are willing to do so on a regular basis... Kim is another one who tries.... Maybe it's a WV thing? I find that folks here are pretty laid back and not too big on joining in on things! LOL
I had my surgery 8/29/06 with Dr. Stickler at Medabolix. He has an amazing follow up program and really wants his patients to learn the new lifestyle that will be required in order to be truly succesfull after WLS. It sounds like King's Daughters does too. My folks are from Ironton and South Point, so I know that area a bit. I actually spent 4 mos in South Point taking care of my Grandmother back in 1999 before we bought our home up here in Braxton County.
It sounds like you are determined to have a good experience with your surgery. I wish you only the best as you begin the process that is required. Don't be afraid to lose weight while getting ready for surgery! It can show the insurance company that you are willing to change your ways in order to be successful!
Biggest OH hugs!
Lea
