Sore throat and fluid 14 day fast.......
Hello all, okay......it's time for Katherine to complain a bit. I'm 5 days out on my 14 day protein shake (Preop), SF Jello and Broth Liquid diet and gagging on the shakes. I'm using 1 scoop of the Isopure/0 Carb protein with the Chocolate CIB packets (they want six a day.....no way, yuck....can't keep them down!) Chicken broth never tasted so good! Hahaha.......but I'm following the rules nonetheless. I still have 10 days until surgery and now I have a VERY sore throat and head cold. I've read for many months that a lot of pre-ops catch a cold or get the flu within a week or two of their surgeries. I don't know if it is because of the drastic diet change, pressures, stress or all three.
Anyway, still love my savior, still going for it.......still feel very sick. Anyone with a special prayer left in their pocket, I sure would believe it was an honor if you said a small one for me. Getting sick physically worries me, I sure don't want to have my surgery postponed.
God bless to all! Katherine
I dont know if this is good advice or not but i have been experimenting with different types of protein drinks because i cant stomach the majority of them. I bought some of the Atkins protein drinks at walmart the other day and was shocked that they didnt taste to bad. No aftertaste...Maybe you might want to try them. I have only had to chocolate so far but it was definitely tolerable unlike everything else i have tried......Good luck...Hope you feel better.
Dear Katherine, I am not questioning your doctors request for a 14 day liquid diet but I am wondering why the doctors differ so much in their pre op requirements. I ate up until 10pm and drank up until 12 midnight of the night b4 my surgery and did not have to take a laxative or cleansing agent. I did fine. I just wondered if there is a special reason for this or is this how your doctor does everybody? Seems to me if I did fine the way I did it that other docs would not put their patients through such a torture. Just wondering. Diane
I am also preop & have been experimenting with protein shakes. I am a very picky eater & have only found 2 that I can tolerate. Adkins & the new Slimfast Carb control. Both have 20g of protein & if you pour it into a glass it helps the taste 100%. The ready to drink protein is more expensive than the powder, but I get mine at Sam's Club & it is a lot cheaper. Good luck & hope you feel better.
Katherine,
I do happen to have a prayer left and then some. I will try my best to keep you in them each day until I know things have improved for you. Keep leaning on the Lord, there is no burden to heavy, nor a request to petty, so ask and lean and I will continue to pray.
God bless and big hugs,
Becky Early

P.S. All I've been able to manage on my clear liquids is water, chicken noodle broth, sugar free popsicles & some jello. Haven't been able to stomach any of the protein either.
