Wow that is great. I can handle pain pretty well. Right now I have a bad back so I am hoping that I do not have to wait the full 6months that my insurance requires to get the surgery. I know it is the weight that is causing most of the pain. I wish you luck as the weight comes off. I look forward to chatting as time goes on.

Thanks! Today I'm feeling a ton better--it's like I was making steady progress in healing and then all of the sudden it made huge jumps in improvement in the last two days. I was out raking leaves with the kids earlier today for a couple hours, though I'm resting after lunch so I don't overdo.

Congratulations! I can only assume you are feeling good, especially with the excitement in your post! Enjoy every success! You deserve it!

Welcome Lucy! I had RNY 3 1/2 weeks ago, going back to work after 2 1/2 weeks. I am a nurse, but I work in Psych, so rarely have to lift. I felt great going back to work when I did.

Welcome to the boards!!
Your nutritionist will go over all the things you'll need for your meals the first few weeks you get home, so make sure to follow their instructions. I have an entire booklet on just the different things I can eat and when. You can try out a few protein powders ahead of time such as from GNC or samples from Unjury or other good sources, but don't buy a lot of them! Your tastes may change after surgery.
I needed:
a blender
a little pillow for splinting myself the first few days (bring it to the hospital so you have it for the car ride home)
a back scrubber (to reach my legs in the shower the first few days because bending over is really sore)
Really loose clothes--I ran around in pajama pants for the first week--even the underwear waistbands bothered my incisions so I pulled the Ancient Holies out of the back of the drawer that were all stretched out
Help around the house
slippers that you can just slide on and off, and some shoes (mules or clogs) that you don't have to tie
baby spoons (so I can learn to chew the right size bite)
some people think sippy cups work for keeping air out better, too.
That's a start for the moment.
Congrats on getting approval!

Here's the WI list: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/WI/a,doclisting/type,LAP/
At the bottom of the page is a listing of more docs who haven't registered with the site--some more names might pop up there for you. I don't know anything about them, however, so I can't make an honest recommendation of any of them.
